    What did you learn today?

Not much of a lesson learned, but a sudden realization that because I was raised strictly hearing (asides from the six years of speech therapy in elementary school), I've lost out on tons of opportunities, assistance, and maybe perks for being deaf. I had no deaf community until a few days ago...

What do I need to prove I was discriminated against?

I was born in the USA. I'm not from another country. I can hear the phone perfectly IF the headphones are strong enough (I raise the volume on the computer if I need to) and IF I can pick it all up on telephone mode if I need to. There was only one call center place that I really needed...

What do I need to prove I was discriminated against?

    1) I wasn't rejected for the job. They hired me and then fired me due to my accent. (national origin discrimination) 2) My husband said that I could make this a wrongful termination based on disability as well because I have a noticeable deaf accent and I *did* mention it to the boss. 3)...

How hard of hearing is HoH?

I HATE it when people mention drug store glasses. Most of the drug store glasses are for those that are near sighted (can't see up close) or reading glasses! My eyes aren't the same, last I checked them, my left was at 40/20 and my right at 175/20! So no, I cannot get glasses at drug stores.

    Auditory Memory?

It makes sense, but this has happened very rarely. The last time it happened to me was about 9 years ago but when I was really tired. Just like it did when I was a baby, it definitely soothed me and put me to sleep.

    Why are you deaf?

Uh let's see. I was born 3 months before my due date. Two of the arteries that was supposed to close naturally, didn't. At 18 months I was rushed to the ER for emergency heart surgery 'cause I was hemorrhaging blood into my lungs. The doctors fitted me with tubes and anti-biotics, but gave me...

    Auditory Memory?

I heard this term a long time ago. Basically it's when you hear music or a song playing one day, and over the years even in an empty room with no radio or anything, you can still hear the music/song as if it's clear as day. It's different from remembering a song, it's actually HEARING the...

How hard of hearing is HoH?

I may have to tell people I'm deaf instead of hard of hearing. I wear glasses to see far away and frankly my current glasses aren't strong enough anymore, I can't afford new ones. So whenever I try lip-reading people without my glasses, it's a nightmare..... with my glasses, well I'll be lucky...

    Interesting Experience...

That never happened to me... or maybe it did but I never noticed. Usually the server will ask me a question and since it's noisy I wouldn't hear her, so I look at my husband all helpless and he repeats what she said. It's handy to have a hearing husband that will repeat everything the other...

What do I need to prove I was discriminated against?

Yes I did several times. But I still have the sinking feeling that when I show up, I'll miss some crucial documentation. I want to be prepared.

What do I need to prove I was discriminated against?

Ok thanks. Over the years I've been denied employment, and denied promotions/raises due to being hard of hearing. This was the first time I got fired over something like this. Normally, I would've looked the other way and moved on, but I've had it. It's people like them that really need...

What do I need to prove I was discriminated against?

About two months ago I was hired at a call center, everything was hunky dory and I was in the middle of training. A hiring manager came in and said that this was a hard position to fill because while there's a lot of us, he's going to have to weed out some people. He asked all of us to state...

    Hi, this is Sabiya.....

I'm 27, and live in AZ, USA. I was born a hearing person but I was premature. I had to have heart surgery at 18 months old to save my life, doctors back then weren't that familiar with the surgery since it was still kind of new (I think). They pumped me with a buttload of antibiotics, and...
