Thanks everyone for your input. As I narrow down my dissertation project I will let you all know. Meanwhile, feel free to share more of your experiences and if you are not comfortable sharing them on the forum, send me a private message and we'll work something out. I'll keep everyone posted...
I agree...I love watching ASL storytellers. I know this will make people angry but every year in November we hold a day long event for children with storytellers, arts & crafts, authors, etc. at our main library. Approximately 5000 kids pass through on that particular day and of course, there...
As a librarian I get the "service" cracks all the time. Not to mention: can you show me your "stacks?"
And I get the "ooh I have fantasies about librarians" freaks. Lol.
But seriously I want to hear about people's experience or lack of since this is important. Thanks for all your input, I...
KristinaB those are things I have been addressing in my PhD program. The professors are not even aware of those issues so when they teach students to become librarians, especially public librarians they don't realize those issues. English is usually not a deaf person's first language especially...

Reading Promise Me: How a Sister's Love Launched the Global Movement to End Breast Cancer by Nancy Brinker. It is a total tearjerker especially if you know of anyone who's had breast cancer.
I work with the public and believe me...there are no boundaries as to who is rude: hearing, deaf, tall, short, big, small, old, young...trust me. Sometimes, people are so rude that it makes me wonder why I do what I do. :P
Thanks to everyone who responded to matajan when he asked about my age. I did find that a bit intrusive and off-putting, especially when we had no conversation. Thanks everyone for having my back. :)
