What does deaf mean to you

Being Deaf is who you are, God doesn't makes mistakes and I believe we are made in His image. I also believe people who think they need to "fix" deafness are wrong, my personal opinion. I am hard of hearing, I use this term because I grew up in a hearing school and was not in the Deaf Community...

Deaf Awareness needed in Legal System/Law Enforcement! I'm angered!

No I'm hard of hearing, and I don't commit crimes. My topic was stemming off a conversation with a police officer who pretty much said they don't have to provide an interpreter when I thought it was the law.

Deaf Awareness needed in Legal System/Law Enforcement! I'm angered!

How am I far off? I'm agreeing with you that the right to an interpreter protects a deaf person? That's why I was shocked to hear they can just deny the deaf person one if one was requested. They can even read them their rights even if they don't understand them because as long as they read them...

Deaf Awareness needed in Legal System/Law Enforcement! I'm angered!

Oh this department was never sued but I'm sure others have if they follow the same protocol but I will be looking into others to see if that's the case. You can never just take one persons word but it was just so upsetting to hear

Deaf Awareness needed in Legal System/Law Enforcement! I'm angered!

It wasn't a case I was told in a general conversation as I was questioning to get an idea where an office would stand. The officer was just letting me know that even though I mean well that's just how it is. A lot of departments don't even have an interpreter they have to call around to other...

Deaf Awareness needed in Legal System/Law Enforcement! I'm angered!

Yeah I do agree with a lot of what your saying but this officer was from a very large police station. I was shocked to hear that the Sargent would rather take them being used then provide an interpreter. He said even if the ADA mandates it as law the department would mom the lawsuit over the...

Deaf Awareness needed in Legal System/Law Enforcement! I'm angered!

This year in school I am looking into becoming activist for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community regarding several things. I am outraged after eating if I was pulled over by the police and requested an interpreter they can just say no. If I was arrested and asked they can say no. That their...

    Textbooks Ebook

I'm an adult learning returning and I always like a hard copy but I'm use to that. Sometimes I'll get the same book on Amazon and ask the professor if I can use mine or if I need the other one. Sometimes it's not a choice I'm finding out as it's a requirement for some classes. There are usually...

    What did you learn today?

I was told he was ignorant to the disability field, I don't think he's has a deaf or hard of hearing student before. He's a graduate student.

    What did you learn today?

I was shocked myself. A little distance ok but in the corner... Come on. I told him I wouldn't be able to watch the speaker then, he was fine with that. I'm just as much a part of that class, sorry to inconvenience anyone, wow...

    What did you learn today?

Today I learned that teachers need more Awareness! It was disturbing to hear my teacher wanted my interpreter and myself in the corner of the room to prevent the students from getting nervous or disturbed during their first speech. Needless to say, I dropped the class. Sigh.....
