I've had a quite few Deaf people tell me that... a little weird that they discrinimate against their own people. So what are other ways to be capital D deaf?

I mean I do benefit from hearing aids(I have it turned to the max and best hearing aids I can afford), especially one on one situations. However, I still miss a ton in group situations. Regarding both worlds, I don't fit in either. I can never be Deaf, I can only be deaf. I have Deaf...

Interesting perspective. I personally myself never heard a bird chip, so I have no idea what I'm missing out on. I just feel so much free'er when I don't have my hearing-aids on.

Haha a little longer than my 17 years ;). I mean I use them at school but outside of school I take them off. It feels like I'm free from a leash almost(something holding me down).

The title pretty much says it all. Yes, hearing aids do work for me, but I still cannot hear most of the time. I just hate accomadating for hearing people, like I want them to work to communicate with me(sick of reading lips). Without them I can't hear anything... but I feel so much at ease...

They always assume! Out of curiosity, what do hearing people ask you to sign when they come up to you? People always ask me how to swear in sign language.

Haha, at least it's the thought that counts! I never had one person use sign language with me, well except a deaf person :P

I've seen many people at my school use sign language, mainly to cheat on a test, but sometimes just communicating. I found it really awkward, because I'm the only deaf kid in my school and they're signing to each other when they(hearing) can simply talk.

Haha, I have nothing against AG Bell or speaking in general. I think if you just signed you would miss out on communicating with the hearing world(so why not both?!). Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

I am a supervisor at a hospital called John Muir in NorCal. I also mentor deaf kids who struggle with their preteen years because isolation can really overwhelm some. I do maybe 5 hours of volunteering a week, but it amps up during the summer :)
