    Ask a Relay Opr!

You know, this doesn't really matter to ME personally, other than if you have to type it out every time it makes the call take longer (Yeah, we kinda get impatient with long calls too, we like free time between calls!). For your sake, I think the best thing for you to do to expedite the...

    Ask a Relay Opr!

Ok, I had some time to sit down and read these posts, and here is my response to you, Lucia: I understand that you have had some upsetting experiences with relay, but just as you would expect our common courteousy while handling your call, we expect your courteousy as a caller. This is...

    Ask a Relay Opr!

Keep in mind that it's not like we get relief because we are tired of typing, it's usually because we have to use the restroom!!

    Ask a Relay Opr!

I just watched this movie last night!! Heath Ledger stole the show!! Wow, did he do a good job! Maybe he killed himself because he thought it was the best he would ever do and he could never top it? Like Bend said, you really can't call a "900" number, because you have to be able to accept...

    AIM Relay Calls

Not sure on this one, that is a relay company thing. Our company, we start typing as soon as the message hits, and like was discussed earlier, we TRY to get it all, but sometimes we paraphrase or type "(too fast)" to get the most important stuff across. If you want the message in it's entirety...

    Ask a Relay Opr!

You would be surprised! I have encountered some instances where the side conversation I have relayed has actually made a huge impact on the call itself, caused fights, etc! I try to type anything in the side convo I can hear, without interrupting the caller, but sometimes if i can catch a few...

    Ask a Relay Opr!

Exactly! I would even go so far as to say that you should indicate to the opr something along the lines of "Pls ask the person to speak 3 words at a time, with a small pause in between" or something like that. It's your call! Remember that we can't do anything unless you tell us to do it.

    Ask a Relay Opr!

Since each company, and each relay opr is different in their in preferences and what not, I will answer each question for myself as well. Just to give you guys an idea. Remember that as far as the call goes, you can communicate with the operator about how you want it to flow as much as you want...

    Ask a Relay Opr!

I am a Relay Opr. I am no longer angry. No, I do not HATE deaf people. Ask me questions about relay service, phone calls, etiquette, or the hearing world in general! Hopefully it will make everything smoother when I'm making a call for you someday!

    AIM Relay Calls

Correct, I would never make accusations like that, especially about an ENTIRE group of people. That would be totally immature. Whoever said it is right, I am just trying to tell you that it makes you SEEM like a moron. I am not saying that you are one, because I understand, especially after...

    AIM Relay Calls

They really wouldnt do that because they try to make using relay as... "friendly" as possible. Meaning that they don't want to discourage you from using relay even a little bit or even imply that you are doing something wrong. It's just a thing where they wouldn't bother doing it because it...

    AIM Relay Calls

Nope. at least not at the company I work for. All we can see is your client type (If it's AIM, Java applet, etc) and your screen name or IP address. We have a special counsel and all we get is the text that you send to us. For instance in the IM convo if it says YourScreenname: Hey! All our...

    AIM Relay Calls

What you fail to realize is that this sort of thing has minimal impact on ME. This post is more for the benefit of people who USE relay. Like I said, it's slightly irritating to have to repeat the same away message over and over again, but at the end of the day it is not my conversation that...

    AIM Relay Calls

I don't think it's unorthodox but I appreciate your levelheaded response. Once again, realize that this is an attempt on my part to bridge the gap between deaf culture and hearing culture. I may have come off as abrasive, but that is just because I sometimes get sour with the things I deal with...
