[I have reposted with new thread with some modifications]

Having been MS Mobile PDA users for past few years, I have finally switched to my very first BB (8330 Curve) Wednesday.. Yay!

I am impressed with the functionality so far.. But I am not impressed with speed test via modem to PC so far, but will have to re-test it tomorrow when I am closer to the tower at office).. My home is right in between 3 towers (overlaps) which is not ideal location for best speed (due to repeatedly call hand off between these 3 towers) as I am not excessing 150kbps download speed!! I should be seeing at least 300 where I am at now. At work, I typically get over 1mbps most of the times with my aircard.

I can't find out if 8330 has EVDO Rev A or Rev 0 chipset, does anyone know which one BB Curve have?

One false claim about this BB regarding hearing aid compatible, it claimed that this phone is M3/T4. It look it is not even close.. Damn thing generated alot of Buzzing noise when I am in Telecoil mode!! My previous PDA (Moto Q) hardly had any buzz at all.. It is nearly impossible to use it in T mode unless you position the phone to your CI or HA in weird way. And crap, i can't even use my wired headset for this since it use much larger headset connector (non standard!) Anyone know where I can find wired headset with mic (I have been using wired xbox 360 headset for all my phone calls with previous PDA)? Or even better, is there bluetooth for CI without wires?

Lastly, where do I find tons of great home theme for free??

T-Mobile = 8320
Sprint = 8330

Which one do you have again?

If you're on T-Mobile, you're using EDGE and the speed is not fast. Sprint uses EVDO so the modem speed is faster. Can you clarify which one you have?

He use BB 8330 under Sprint or Alltel.

I use Alltel since I work there.. BB is EVDO, I tested this at my work location and got about 500kbps. That is "average" speed for most customers, but I typically get over 1mbps with EVDO PC card at work. Probably due to overhead processed by BB.

Alltel has "roaming" relationship with Sprint for 1X and EVDO.

I see. I've never tested the speed, but I get pretty good speeds on EVDO on my BB 8703e from Sprint.

BIG CONGRATS! welcome to the blackberry world.. Wow, you learning so quick about BB stuffs.. thats impress me.. i like that way you do.. just keep it up.. anyway Honestly I don't aware about 8330 has EVDO Rev A or Rev 0 chipset.. I just courage you go to visit Blackberry forums like crackberry or Rim blackberry, pinstack. Or RIM has own forums you can visit and questioning them, they will answer if they can.

I hope you enjoy your new toy during weekends. ;)

Good Luck! ;)

Richard - congratulation and you made a very very very wise choice choosing BB!! Soon you will be a Crackberry. I have exactly same experience as you regarding MS products. I've had PDA and MotoQ and it caused more migraine than my gf does to me. :o

You should dl this programs in case your telecoil or whatsoever went kaput.

I used to test new phones before it get sold to the public since I works in Network Operations but I don't have time for testing many new phones these days, too time consuming. Thats why I learn/figures out phone very quickly but I got to admit that this phone got tons of features than other PDA that it will take some used to.

One cool thing about this BB I never noticed on other phones, when I forward to other mobile phones (*72 codes), BB pops the call forwarded icon.. I really liked that!! Sometime I forget to unforward and some people complained I am not answering the phone! Now I will know if phone is forwarded or not.

It does have EVDO, it is like HSDPA for TMobile and ATT (3G), but I wasn't sure which revision it was, but I found out its revision 0 (original) but its good enough for BB itself, but I wouldn't use it for PC usage - PC Card is still better.

 I think MotoQ is best "MS" PDA I ever owned compared to other "MS" PDAs. Curve BB is best BB except probably that new Bold BB.. Too bad, its not CDMA yet. It seems that ATT get good stuff first.. <grr>

I doubt I will ever use the text relay again but good for backup!.. I haven't used text relay for over 2 years since CapTel then VP100/200 using VCO. I don't think I have patient with text relay as they are painfully slow compared to realtime VRS/VCO.

Thanks..

a) the curve has many feature than other PDA, So, which one of features on Curve has what PDA doesn't have? Just curious.

b) You must be hard of hearing, don't you? anyway I disabled the CF (call forwarding) is unnecessary, due I am deaf. ;) But I really happy to hear you do like your new device.. just keep to learning bb, tech, how to use, etc.. your knowledge will be grow so FAST! Once you go black, then can't go back. Ha!

c) Yeah of course I do agree that PC card is better for PC/LPTP. UNLESS I carelessly left the PC card at home or lost. the curve's can manage network via ethren (sp) is backup than nothing.. ;)

I know it could be a repost but can some of you put bunch of links in here for useful BB programs like "A MUST HAVE!" and freebies.

a) biggest difference in BB / MotoQ I have noticed is the ringer profile.. BB have a lot more configurations - ie. ringer tone for SMS, Calls, Browser, Alert, etc.. Build in GPS is one cool feature - I can use this GPS indoor since it picks up the info from tower.

B) Actual, I am deaf - have been since I was 3 years old. I have CI which give me hearing back but I am still deaf. I have 2 other mobiles phones at home - one of them is wired to my alarm clock in bed which I have to forward the calls to the bed whenever I am on-call duty.

c) PC Card is ok.. I rather do it via Bluetooth or built into laptop.. unforunately Alltel doesnt have MiniPCI card yet - not enough demands for it.

About your #B - WOW really?? I've been trying to figure out how to connect my cell to my alarm clock. How did you do it?? The only thing I can find is to have a landline connected to my clock. I hate having to rely on my mom to wake me up when it rings.

I see. I've never tested the speed, but I get pretty good speeds on EVDO on my BB 8703e from Sprint.

It all depends on location (how close you are to the tower, indoor or outdoor, etc).. But EVDO revision A will kick ass - you will be able to use VRS with revision A.

I am using Cellsocket connected to sonicboom clock for past 3-4 years. But unforunately that cellsocket company is out of business.. New model is Ndock which use bluetooth.
