I'm not a XBOX 360 owner, but I do have a great deal of interest in the XBOX 360 due to the recent release of HD-DVD drive. The reason why I haven't bought it yet is because the current XBOX 360 premium and core models lack a HDMI port.

I have read rumours and possibilities of an updated version of XBOX 360 with a HDMI port built in being planned for 2007. However, I haven't found any official press releases regarding this rumour.

Do any of you think they will be bringing one with a HDMI port out anytime soon? Myself, I think it would be a mistake to not make such a move because HDMI is already becoming common in the new HDTV models on the market.

In fact, my HDTV has 3 HDMI ports.

So, anybody know anything about this particular rumour?

I dont know about this and never heard of such thing like MS putting in HDMI input on Xbox360 in the near future...since I read and hear news from ign.com and gamespot.com nearly daily, I still dont hear anything about that thou we all know the PS3 in both versions have HDMI while it is a damned mystery of why MS didnt put HDMI in there so maybe they feel its just not ready in this generation yet so...who knows? either way, using VGA or components still wont hurt thou. Many ppl said using the HD-DVD drive thru VGA is the best than component anyway.

so to be perfectly honest with you, I dont think HDMI would really concern me with gaming and movies right now thou I feel using component or VGA is good enough for me as long as the picture looks great for your eyes. Maybe in the next generation, HDMI would really be of concern. Even the Wii doesnt have HDMI either so maybe MS and Nintendo arent just ready for some kind of SUPER HD stuff yet.

Some members from other forum said that MS has hard time to make HDMI due different chips in their machine that not easier to make HDMI cable.

Yea, I agree that HDMI isn't important to me, also VGA cable and component cable are good enough. If MS never release HDMI cable then what gamers would to do and get PS3 if want support HDMI input), 1080p isn't common right now. It's right that Wii don't support HD and most gamers (Nintendo fanboy) got Wii, also doesn't care about HD, HDMI cable or 1080p.

Xbox 360 do support super HD, such as 1080p that can used via VGA cable and component cable.

Now, I don't care about HDMI...

Even if Microsoft came out with a HDMI cable, it'd be pricey. HDMI cables for DVD players or HD TVs are $100-$200 nowdays.
Even if Microsoft came out with a HDMI cable, I'm not sure I'd even buy it for a while. I'm pretty happy with my component cables with 720p.

I agree, it would be a mistake not to make such a move, but i would also not expect it to happen anytime soon. Besides, most 360 games are at 720p. 720p is pretty darn good, IMO. It's not like the 360 and HD DVD movies are unplayable in anything other than 1080p.

Correct me If I am wrong, I thought HDMI cable is required for Blu-ray, HD-DVD player, and PS3. Without a HDMI, you can't watch HD movies. However, 360 HD-DVD add-on doesn't require a HDMI theremore, can watch HD-DVD movies. In additional, HDMI can only capture 1080p resolution. I know you guys probably saying that MS said VGA and conponent cables do capture 1080p but I have hard time to believe.

HDMI cable for PS3 is around $50-$100 but Nyko is around $50 and Sony will release HDMI cable for $50 too.

If your HDTV don't have 1080p support then HDMI is worthless to capture 1080p signal. HDTV with 1080p support is around cost more than $1,500.

No... PS3, BD and HD-DVD don't require HDMI to watch movies in 720p and 1080i. It does require HDMI to watch movies in 1080p.

It's true about MS said that you can get 1080p via component cable and VGA cable but it doesn't work on all HDTV, such as Sony HDTV had problem with messed up on picture quality then MS sent other update to fix this problem.

No, but the studios can author their HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs to require a HDMI source if they want to.

I believe few studios such as MCM requires HDMI to view the blu-ray movie. The reason they wanted to that to protect the copyright protection(HDCP). How do u tell? Bluray's back cover case and that's where you can see " ICT label required" means you need HDMI to view BD movie.

EDIT: Digital Content Protection, LLC (a subsidiary of Intel) is providing High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) for HDMI. In addition, HDMI has the support of major motion picture producers Fox, Universal, Warner Bros. and Disney, and system operators DirecTV, EchoStar (Dish Network) as well as CableLabs.

EDIT 2: HDCP is software, requires an HDMI connector... Without such a connector, your movie will be downscaled from 1080p to 540p.

Banjo, If you want watch movies in true 1080p then get PS3.

For HD-DVD, they are using HDMI (except for 360), component cable, A/V cable and S-video cable.

For BD, they are using same cable as HD-DVD except for A/V cable since A/V cable isn't support anymore.

Fuck the PS3 and HDMI...they just want to rip you off even more.

Wow....Microsoft ripped you off too.. Why don't you try running a console business and see how it feels? They worked hard for it. Please don't insult the companies that have worked hard for it for many years.

The fact is that most companies who make the consoles DON'T make a profit fir the first few years because of the cost....most of the profits come from accessories and games.

Don't agure with a fanboy. At first he says Wii sucks and not as incrediblely grahpic as the 360. Until His brother in law and sister got him an early christmas present which is the wii. And then all the sudden, he will never say," bad thing" on Wii. I know his way which is not bother me. As same as Pac-man, he used to hate xbox 360 because he cant get through the xbox live. Once I helped him and and it works. Now he is getting the 360 on monday or tuesday meanwhile he already bought 12 360 games. :) I am proud of myself conventing them as fanboys to a true gamers. :afro:

If I get 1080p Samsung HDTV with HDMI (40" and over) then I would rather to get PS3 instead of HD-DVD for some reason because BD movies are getting more dominant due high sales of PS3 and help to growing more profit, also PS3 is $100 extra than HD-DVD player and more feature, such as games, music, and more.

PS3 support true 1080p since HD-DVD add-on isn't due lacking of HDMI cable.

Yea, I agree...

Sony is work so hard to make PS3 looks successful and more features.

I'm retired to being fanboy.

Good posting about this.

Reason that I got PS3 for my new television, Sony 60 inches SXRD XBR2. 3 hdmi supports. I have dvd player with hdmi and it is really amazing. It pulled my dvd movies up to 1080i. No shit. I believe that blu-ray is more way amazing than dvd 6 times better. I love movies myself. I have Sony tv, dvd player, speakers, and finally ps3 with blu-ray.

Also I have not buy any games for ps3. I want to finish some games on xbox 360. I am not in hurry for this.

I am kind of upset with xbox 360 will not go to 1080p with vga to Sony. Sony blocked Microsoft. OR Microsoft refused to make something happen to work with Sony.

Right now, I realized that blu-ray movies start to make more than hd-dvd. I noticed that blu-ray movies had good movies than hd-dvd. Some hd-dvd movies that I did not like. Mostly blu-ray movies that i liked most.

So that's why. I picked PS3 with blu-ray. I wont buy Sony blu-ray player is more expernsive than PS3 around 300 dollars more. PS3 have more features like explore internet, playing games, blu-ray, etc.

I dont really care about explore internet but it is good as backup, if my computer crashed!!!!!!!!!!

Good point! Why didn't lot of people think of that?! It's cheaper than a stand alone Blu Ray drive! IT can do movies AND video games in one box. Sony wasn't crazy to charge that much, it sounds reasonable for what it is. Of course, the blu ray drive was probably the majority of the cost, but still most consoles don't usually turn into a profit after a few years and most of the profit comes from games and accessories.

I will admit that I do agree that the PS3 have a far better price than the stand alone blu-ray player and would remain a mystery of why stand alone blu-ray players are far more expensive than the PS3...but my guess is that they feel $600 is expensive enough to buy it but of course I still find it pretty expenisve for a videogame console. I do understand that blu-ray have more gbs than a regular dvd disc...but is it REALLY nessassary to put in a blu-ray disc for games? I guess it is so to make the game be longer with bigger levels and more animation, etc...but look at this here with other consoles...they are still about 4.5 gbs for games and movies so I dont know about needing that more gbs for games since they can always make extra discs or make a sequel to save room. regualr dvds are still cheaper than blu-ray anyway. But the manufacture of blu-ray is obviously higher than the hd-dvd manufacture. either that its just new and will get lowered later on but everything is all about time and price. most ppl loves to go for things that are very affordable. not things that are very expensive. So I dont know what the future holds for the PS3 but believe it or not, I have heard rumors that the PS3 is considered to be Sony's last console and havent even heard any future plans from Sony to do a PS4 since I've already heard that MS is already doing plans on another Xbox console.

I always love videogames since I was a kid and I just play games to have fun but is it really nessenary to increase such a high price on a videogame consoel that have much more than just games and is it really worth it for this future of gamers? Obviously you all know why I have Xbox360, PS2, Wii, DS, N64, DC, and so on...because I love games and I play games on the PS2 more than watching movies. I even played games more on the xbox360 than movies as well so movies, music, and internet on the PS3 why do we need all those in there when the main reason is videogames? Why surf on the internet when I already have a computer and downloaded firefox on it? Why do I need blu-ray when I still like to watch regualr dvds and in the future pleans to buy a HD-DVD drive to watch movies in better resloution thru VGA. Music...thats a different story since I'm obviously deaf and dont listen to music...but there's already Ipods, portable CD players, and Zunes for music, tv shows, and movies. Is it not about videogames anymore? just entertainment now? just about movies and music and internet? *sigh* I sure miss the good ol' days when there was Nintendo and Sega around. ahhh such memories cause it was ALL about games and I loved it. but today, its more than just games means more money and I feel my love for gaming is getting perverted and ruined.
