I have recently have lost my hearing due to several issues that have been building.

Hi! , It would help if you gave a little more info about yourself , are you a student or working and a young adult or older. You do not have to give your age just some how you are lost. Will hearing aids help you ?

Started with an unknown ear infection as a child. Was found back in 2003 doctors kept fiddling with it but did nothing more some said I didn't have an ear infection ect. It was an infection of the inner ear that they could not see until it got really bad. Fast forward to about two years ago and the doctors realized I was extremely hard of hearing and decided to get serious about it. They did a surgery but it hasn't helped. My ear drum does move, the bones have deteriated, and the tube (don't ask I really do not know medical terms, just hope you follow) that drains ans let's air to the back of ear drum, as per doctors description, doesn't work.

So you have Eustachian tube dysfunction..

Yes, along with an ear infection that was not curable with medicines. That is what the doctors were fiddling with. Then I saw a specialist who did a surgery that got rid of what he could but there was too much damage to the bones and nerves.

Cholesteatoma?

Burns like the dickens.

I thought that was just what they called the cyst that formed from the skin and whatnot in the ear from the infection?

It isn't really an infection. It is a specific type of cyst. And yes it needs to be removed surgically.
Medication will do nothing.

If I remember right the infection starts with an "m" and about 6inches long. ;) (exasderating)

Ok, so now we have established you have acquired cholesteatoma from mastoiditis , rather than genetic cholesteatoma.

Yes, sorry I have never had to explain all this. Tell people that your deaf they have either already labeled you as a "female dog" or get iffy and ignore me.

Know how you feel...after reading all this, basically I had the same thing...so far, 4 surgeries on the left ear and I still have some drainage to this day...been a long road, but I've been deaf for a very, very long time due to all the infections....and nerve damage....Had cholestoma in 2012....

As for the cyst...when the doctor closed off the left ear...1-2 months later, I got a cyst behind the ear, very painful....did the removal in his office...oh my!...and immediately put me into the hospital for 2 weeks...another surgery....bacterial infection, guessing from the cyst, but it's not clear yet. These types of cysts are dangerous...and deadly!....

Ear drops and infection meds have not cleared up the infection...even surgeries....
