Bad news for you - small population of brown recluse spiders already spread to Chicago.

Also, brown recluse spiders are native in Alabama.

It is just rare but you will likely to see brown recluse spiders in Chicago, especially older houses.

They won't be here-- we have exterminators come here every 90 days or so to spray the house with chemicals that kills bugs and spiders, but our primary concern is mice, and once the kitchen renovation has been completed, I feel sure we won't be seeing any many mice as we do now.

Do not say "that will not happen" or you can end up with surprise bite.

There are brown recluse spiders in some houses in Chicago metro - it may not your house but other house - yes.

Our house doesn't have brown recluse spider but I will likely to see in older houses.

Never say never. I've been bitten by spiders before, but nothing too serious-- just itching like a crazed man, that's all. The ones that bit me do not have strong enough venom to do any harm, but they WILL make you itch like crazy. Trust me-- been there, and it's no fun.
 
I read that article today...seems that Tennessee has the bulk of 'em....Never seen one...*knock on wood*....

I would not want to live in a house that got sprayed with poison that often .

I already live in dorm about 10 years ago that was infestation of brown recluse spiders and I saw like 3-4 brown recluse spiders at most of days.

I have very little sense of smell, so it doesn't affect me like it would most people, and the reason I have very little sense of smell is because it got destroyed with my nose being broken 5 times.

I was at Marshall's today and they had remodeled the whole store and there was an odor from something that was used on the floor , I guess the glue to hold the tiles down and it gave me a headache. I won't be going shopping there for awhile.

I did ask them if the spray was toxic, and they said no. They use a specialized spray that won't affect us. There's this one company in Indianapolis that uses this special chemical, but :dunno: what it is. All I know is that it's safe to be around.

I have. Bit my younger brother, and took me 20 minutes to kill it, as he refused to go quietly.

It is what it is. That's why I always have a positive outlook on life, because I grew up being abused, and I swore when I reached adulthood I would not follow in my parents' footsteps, and for the better part, I have been largely successful in not being abusive or doing harm to others. I am a good guy, and like to be around people. My past has made me a much better person today, instead of being a bad person.
