Howdy everyone! I'm here hoping to make new friends and continue learning to sign in a non sloppy manor haha. A cowgirl is how I was raised and how I'll stay so I'm a down home country woman with class. I've been told I'm pretty easy I get along with and have a very expressive face haha. I'm not really shy so let's get to talkin.

:welcome: Welcome to the All Deaf forum, Marie! That's good to know you are a cowgirl with class. You can take the cowgirl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the cowgirl.

Ha, that is so true and thanks for the welcome! The country is definitely where I belong, how about yourself?

You are welcome! Even though you are a country girl, I am a more of a city boy, despite being in a state that is known for a plethora of cowboys, cowgirls, ranches, and rodeos.

There are some things about the city I enjoy. After all, I'm a woman and that's where all the big shopping is at! Day or even weekend trips can be really fun. I used to live in a condo and I quickly learned I'm not build for that kind of housing and close quarters.

Yeah, there's pros and cons of living in a city or a country. One thing I like about the city I live in is that it is not a huge metropolis like Chicago, Los Angeles, or Houston.

True, each has their own. I used to live in a huge city in Texas and it was pretty fun for a summer vacation. What else do you enjoy?

What "huge" city in Texas are you referring to, Marie? I generally enjoy reading, web programming, going sightseeing, traveling among other things. How about you?

By the way, I noticed you labelled yourself HOH, how long have you been HOH?

Beaumont, the place seemed to go on forever and I always got lost. I know Houston must be much larger though. I grew up in a small town with a pop of 3,000 and where I live now has a pop of about 400 or so.
I enjoy all of those as well bit I know basically nothing about programming although I've always found it interesting. I love to learn just about whatever I can whenever I can.
According to my mother and the doc I was stabbed in my left ear in kindergarten causing scar tissue and hearing loss for that ear. People assume I'm just fine considering the other ear "works" but I don't think it works properly. I hear ringing almost constantly in my right ear and things seem to be quieter to me than to my pears. Sounds are very muffled in my left and people often raise their voice and repeat things several times to me :/
How about yourself?

I wouldn't consider Beaumont a huge city for not much is there. I know this because I lived there for a few years when I worked on my Masters. Houston is like 20x larger than Beaumont for after all, it is a metropolis and has one of the biggest traffic congestion in the nation.

The city you live in has a population of 400? Wow! I am sure that location can easily afford you a nice view of the starry sky at night!

You were stabbed in the left ear that caused scar tissue and hearing loss? Were you fitted with hearing aids? When did you learn ASL is in existence?

As for me, I was born deaf.

Yeah I figured Houston was much bigger. I've passed through it before but I was asleep in a road trip haha. Driving in big cities I can handle but living is a different story for me.
Yes the views here are just stunning depending in what seasons you enjoy if not all. ImageUploadedByAllDeaf1393567059.708310.jpgImageUploadedByAllDeaf1393567189.369889.jpgImageUploadedByAllDeaf1393567236.414013.jpg
The lake is one a little drive from my home and the other two are the sunset of my neighbors property.

Apparently another child was bullying me for being so short and one day on the playground he took a sharp #2 pencil and stuck it in my ear enough for me to bleed and scream. I remember nothin about the incident which isn't surprising to me considering I have issues with remembering. After my ear "healed" the school nurse gave me a very short hearing test which I could hear high frequencies of beeps and she told my mom I would be fine and wasn't deaf... So I was never taken for a HA fitting.
I learned about ASL in fourth grade (standard learning subject for that school) and fell in love with how easily I could communicate with others that were learning ASL as well.
We moved not much later and I wasn't able to continue my learning.
Only recently have I begun to pick up signin again and I've missed it so much. A gentleman was hired on in my department at work (he is PD) and has been gracious enough to teach me as we work together.
I have mixed feeling about the different "levels" of deafness because I can hear music if it's up loud and I have ear buds in. Wanting to share it makes my heart ache when I'm not able to.

You were asleep in a car on a road trip when you guys passed through Houston? Well, you didn't miss anything then. Ha.

The views that you caught using your camera are, indeed, stunning. I take it that you prefer sunsets over sunrises. Correct me if I am wrong.

It was not cool of the student to bully you for being so short as it is appalling of the reasons why people bully others. Not enough children these days are taught on love which consequently is because the parents don't make the time to do some actual parenting! About the ear "healing", I thought it was funny when every time I went in for a hearing test, it was to prove that I was still deaf. I was thinking, "What do they expect? My ears to magically gain hearing when my hair cells in my cochlear are dead as ever?" Ha.

That's great you learned ASL in fourth grade. It is unfortunate that your high school [might not have] had offerings of ASL courses. At least, you can learn now. There are plenty of online resources!

I believe it is just the matter of coping with one's deafness, you know?

Thank you, I'm quite find of our valleys! For me sunrises all day until sunset is just awesome :D especially in the summer.
I completely agree with you on how people are "rearing" children anymore. Even adults bully and it's not right at all.
Hahaha that's pretty funny and the opposite of mine. People amaze me on how they think and it's. It always in a good way. Every few years the schools would test everyone's eyes, ears, hight, weight, etc. and it was always them sayin I'm "just fine" and I simply don't pay attention enough in class yeah ok...

"sign in a non sloppy manor"
Manor: a country house ,vs, Manner: A way of doing things.
Props to Bottesini for making humor out of malapropisms

Welcome! Nice to meet you. I'm looking to reduce the slop in my signing too.

I've plenty of horse pictures from all those road trips from Illinois to Arkansas to visit my uncle on farm as I was growing up. It has been 14 years since I was last in Arkansas.
