I have a CI evaluation scheduled for 10-22-12 at the Cleveland Clinic for my right ear(worst of the two). It reached the appropriate level of loss

Hope the results of the Cochlear Implant consideration is successful for you.

Best of luck!! There are so many very helpful, knowledgeable people on this site. I received great support during my CI surgery and continue to do so.

Not Yet But Soon

1. Borderline(not a candidate at this time but with the progressive nature of my loss will be eventually). 2. Should retest in 6 months to a year. 3. Should have hearing aids reprogrammed for greater gain. & 4. Obtain assisting listening device for work phone.

why didn't they approve you what you wanted?

Residual hearing

They felt that I still had a small windows worth of residual hearing

Oh really. wow they dont understand how you feel that you wanted it so bad. That is so wild what they think since you are adult and you are capable of making decisions. know what i mean.

What was your speech discrimination score? How much guessing did you do on the sentences (filling in the blanks)?

I think you know better than them.

If you feel that hearing aids are not working for you now, then it is time for CI.

What HA are you using BTW ?

Oticon Hit Pros

If you are wearing these aids then they are right that you still have residual hearing.

I think they will not give up until you are done with Oticon Chili or Naida UP. These are the most powerful aids and Naida UP is a little more powerful than Chili.

It also depends on your audiogram and speech scores.

Not worth Much

That residual hearing does not seem to be worth much to me in navigating my daily life and doe not help all that much.

My CI centre won't even let you be tested for a CI if you are not wearing the most powerful HAs as speech scores could become better with more powerful aids.

I know there has been complaint that some people purposely not wear the most powerful aids in the hope they qualify. The UK are cracking down on this.

Sounds like they are more driven by money then how much which will help the patient.

You should first try Naida UP which is the most powerful aid on the market, then they will be convinced.
