Let the moderator take care of this subject I am not sure which catergory should I make a thread regarding my question.

When someone in your family that is hearing person try to urge you or maybe putting a little pressure on you to take a new digital hearing aid and she/he thinks it would help you hearing better to understand what the person/people is saying in words but you already know all in your life it never helped you to understand what the others are saying except only sounds such as door knocking, person screaming or yelling, dog barking, phone ringing, people chattering, police siren, volume sounds from television, noisy machinery, power tools, people laughing, floor vaccumming, etc.

And again, I ask the same question - is that also result of audist behavior when she/he demands you to learn more of how to practice lipreading which you already have been spent time growing up learning how to lipreading but you already know you're still not very good at it? Like I thought someone said 'he is asshole' but short moments later I was told that I was wrong, someone said 'he has attitude', not asshole.

I am sure it is their audist attitude rather than audist behavior. I find your family quite disappointing... If you don't want to, that's your right. It is probably better to tell them it is your decision but I doubt they will understand.

IMO, it is probably wise to get them out of your life if they don't interest in or don't understand your POV. I can't stand to see they pick on you because you do not desire to have any HA.

But I should warn you. Do you realize AllDeaf now have many Deaf oralists and audists here? So, you should expect they may dismissive your frustration...

Yes, KarissaMann I'm aware of that but I thought AD made a new rule audism is not allowed to take place in here? I don't welcome audists/oralie audists here if they read here...for them, don't dare to answer this.

Thanks, yes my sister has that attitude and oh my god, she doesn't know what audist means when I called her that. She mocked at me, what is that supposed to mean? She knows it is related to audiologist, to hear, things like that what it is described in the regular dictionary. I told her to check it out in the encyclopedia or google it! She seemed to be an ignorant. Hearing aids are not always helping to control my high pitch voice....i only happen to have a high-pitch voice when to anger at some people like her made me pissed off and other than that, exciting.

Well, I plan to get a new digital hearing aid for job reason. The director, general manager, executive director, and VP at the large company all asked me the damn same question concerning my well being (deafness.) I KNEW it from the beginning they would not give a chance to hire me if I don't plan to have or don't hve hearing aid. Grrr. But my sister needs to know better that digital hearing aid is not gonna make me understand better to hear the words...what is wrong with her..she knows me all of my life. Knocking on her thick ignorant skull.

Well, you could've respond back to your sister, "Well, if I get new digital hearing aids, I will start hearing new sound...like..umm you making all the humping noise? No..wait..that's your vibrator? Golly! Digital is great!!"

That's unbelievable! I'd feel the same way as you do. I am fine with my deafness and I accept who I am. What your family member has been doing to you is encouragement but not audism. If I were you, I would tell the person to shut the fuck up and leave me alone (or say nicely "no, thanks, I am not interested so please stop talking about it, sis. Please respect me."

However, if the employer doesn't hire you (or fire you if you are already hired) because you don't wear a HA, that's audism.

Keep in mind that during job interviews, you are being judged by your answers and your attitude.

Have you convinced the employers that you can do the job without a hearing aid? On all my job interviews, I was asked how I was going to communicate with others when I can't hear on the phone. Instead of saying "I need an interpreter", I said "There is a wide array of technology available that allows me to communicate, and I plan on utilizing any means necessary".

Edit: Keep in mind that if your job interview involved several people, that is good, many of us don't make it past the first person.

As for your family issues....no comment.

I finally found why my brothers don't communicate with me. It's because I am deaf and refuse to get HA's or CI's. They don't seem to understand that there is nothing that will work to make me hear again. They told my mother that I was only a 1/2 person since I refuse to try and hear. I responded and said they were only a 1/4 person for being so closed minded and ignorant and unrealistic.

Katz, it sounds to me like your family is out of line. I can't imagine how frustrating that is for you.

Kristina, ugh. Your brothers' comment just makes me shudder. Good come back on your part.

Lol...chuckle. That is my other sister who has that vibrator..I don't think my older sister who had that audist attitude towards me earlier today have a vibrator. Ha. Oh, i could not hear the silent vibrator. That's the problem...lol

Don't worry about what is audism and what is not. People will either accept you or not. Period.

Well, yeah but not everyone in my family is being audist. Just my older sister and disowned nazi brother. But what is worse for me to have besides them is my Deaf brother who happens to be dysconscious audist. That is sad..oh well.

Wow...you're not alone here.

Were u born deaf? What is ur db, kat?

Yes. I have hearing test appointment on Tuesday. The last evaluation I had taken was in 2002 or 2003, I think, before I moved out for college. 85 dB in my left and 90 dB in my right. I don't remember what my Hz was. I am not sure what to do with my two old and broken analog hearing aids...donate them or dump or recycle them?

does it matter whether or not if it's audist?

what matters is him having to adjust his attitude with you because it's wrong of him to get upset at you like that.

My answers and my attitude during the 4 seperate job interviews in one day was very good, I was being told that after the interviews were over. They were little awkward to meet me in person because they have never had a deaf person to interview with and hire before. I was kind of stunned about that, though. I knew I felt that they might not have hired me if I answered no and not plan to get hearing aid when they asked me a question about how can I know about people try to call on me, fire alarm, customer service (not to mention about the phone calls), people moving heavy items behind me.
