For those of you who were born deaf and have never experienced sound...do you ever wonder what sound is like? I think I would like to try it just for one day...not forever because I like how I am, but I think just for one day...just to know what it is. I find myself wondering sometimes how different the sound of a car horn is, say, from a baby's giggle...or a dog's bark from footsteps....or what my name sounds like...or what the letter K sounds like...random things I wonder sometimes. Do you?

Born deaf (severe to profound) but do experienced sounds with my hearing aids. I can live without sounds as long as I have equipments to alert me and that all people sign.

Not really. I guess I have HA so it is sufficient for me. If normal hearing for one day i know myself that i will lose myself in the world so helpless.

I can hear only very loud machinery sounds, but find it irritating and annoying and gives me a headache. I prefer to put the TV on mute etc. People talking is like Charlie Brown's teacher so I have discovered. Sound for me isn't anything I can rely on. I am very content with signing and being voice off.

Can hear sounds with my HAs...that's good enough for me. Dont want to waste more time trying to hear other ones that I cant hear.

Curious, are you raised in a hearing school or mainstream school?

I go most hearing schools. One year I try school for deaf, but only one year.

Most of you can hear SOMETHING with HAs...not me. I don't know what sound is like at all. Something I will always wonder, I guess.

Um, I was born Deaf and I can still hear and can tell the difference of sounds between plane taking off, dog barking, music blasting in another driver's car on the street, fire truck siren, police car siren, train whistle, banging loudly on the door, chainsaw machine or construction drilling, screaming and yelling from people within 10 feet away without using my hearing aid.

everyone is different...you don't have to emphasize that you hear better than her even though you are Deaf as well and born Deaf. It isn't a contest

I for one would love to be able to hear. I want to understand music but never will cause I can't hear it as intended.

I do wonder from time to time what it would be like to hear without any devices in my ears. Just to have it open to hear like hearing people.

I do not see anything wrong with wondering, and I am sure more people wonder than they want to admit. It is only human nature. :) As long as you do not dwell or get bitter from it.

When I was younger wore hearing aids, I cannot tell one sound from other sound. If dog is barking and car is roaring and I can't tell which one is which cos they same to me. Cant tell if someone is speaking from someone banging. Sounds have to be LOUD for me hear it with hearing when young. Directions of sounds is impossible for me.

Well when you are hearing you can filter out background noise and when things are loud..they're loud..Like my mom ALWAYS complains that the tv is too loud...I used to sometimes tell my nonno to turn down the tv...now me and him are on the couch together turning it up while my nonna and mom are yelling at us to turn it down..he is getting phonak audeos in a few weeks:)

The only thing I miss about being hearing is the ability to filter noise better... obvs ha's are only so good at filtering background noise and if there is a bit of noise forget it I can't hear in it...trust me you guys aren't missin much:P also sometimes I miss not getting so frustrated while using the phone but meh..thank god for texting:)

Yes, I wondered which was why I initially got my HAs. I got to hear the things that I never had but hearing is over-rated. :giggle:

I rarely use my HAs now. Life is *too* loud and I find them uncomfortable. So, I use nothing now. Like Becklak I only hear very loud sounds like sirens or plane overhead but too much exposure to them hurts my ears.

*coughs* I'm sorry...you have just jumped to the wrong conclusion. Why do you think that the OP had to ask that question? Aren't my answer and other's all about? Sheesh.
