Hypocrisy in Six Flags' Deaf Awareness Day?

Wouldn't call it hypocrisy.

Lack of awareness.

Frisky Feline, I was referring to your comment, "he does not know sign language."
How do you know that? Are you saying that I don't know sign language?

if you read carefully - you'll see that she is referring to A in my comment.

seems like it's getting personal there for you.

yeah.

People need to speak out and educate these people who are not familiar with people with hearing loss and does not know sign language.

She's referring to the "A" fellow while replying to Jiro's question of why "A" needs captioning.

Perhaps so. We'll see. Awaiting a response from them.

perhaps you should have gathered the information first before accusing them of hypocrisy and continued discriminatory practice.

nope, unless there is a speaker for the whole crowd or videos. Make me wonder why deaf have an ASL interpreter there in the first place?

But for each individual person, no, because that would lose the purpose of being oral deaf in the first place.

because it's a deaf awareness day. maybe they assumed everybody knows sign language.

is that a hypocrisy? a continued discriminatory practice? no.

If it ASL deaf culture awareness day, it would be a different story

If it ASL deaf culture awareness day, it would be a different story

I would say a major gaffe on their part but it's hypocrisy if they willfully ignored it.

If it ASL deaf culture awareness day, it would be a different story

Correct. It doesn't say "Culturally Deaf Awareness Day" but "Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Day."

If it were ASL deaf culture awareness day then it would sound like they are not welcoming people with heairng loss who does not know asl. It does not sound good to me. :dunno: what if they want to learn ASL?

no win on either.

Right, which is why I'm calling out Six Flags on this one here and do the right thing.

Let the oral deafies complain. If they say nothing, then nothing will change.

More flags.... More fun.

All kidding aside, arent' some of the points valid? Like what about all of the deaf / HOH that do not know sign language? Is it fair if they are left out? Isn't that the same as not having accomidations for the deaf folks that only know sign language?

oral complain to who? The people who are not aware. Usually hearing and signing deaf people (who probably helped run this event)

Wirelessly posted

Hearing people are not aware. Signing deafies know there are oral deafies, but they assume that because no one ask, no one need it.

I had to fight for deafblind's rights to see pictures on a DHH website. Should be commonsense, but they didn't know that blind people could use the Internet via braille typewriters.

Right but what about the deafies that are not oral. Or the ones that were brought up and taught to communicate with SEE or other non ASL methods?

I'm starting to see everything is getting overwhelmed with all sort of methods.. but I think SEE deaf can read captioning should be enough, wouldn't it?
