Actually, that is true. We do have Americans coming here trying to get free healthcare. Sometimes they'll succeed, sometimes they won't.

I would imagine that they would need to meet residency rules. There are probably a number of Americans who live there part of the year.

Right, you usually need to have a Canadian or anyone living in Canada to accompany you proving that you are a co-dependent to receive healthcare for free.

My point is a Government official recently turning up his nose at his government's health care in favor of US health care is more indicative of the state of US health care than a former governor being taken to Canada in the 60's and 70's by her family.

Federal responsibility shouldn't be confused with provincial responsibility. Healthcare is the province's responsibility, not the federal government's.

The Americans (even the Canadians) have a tendency to lump the healthcare system from all of the provinces across the country into one big healthcare system which it isn't. Far from it. It varies from province to province because it is the province's responsibility to run the healthcare system.

Also, Danny Williams is an embarrassment to his country after having all the Canadian flags removed from the provincial buildings in Newfoundland and Labrador. So it's not a surprise he went to the USA. I think he's just a rich spoiled kid who just won't grow up.

He could had gotten the surgery he needed without having to wait months for it. I hope the government won't reimburse him for it.

Not really a new idea. The British NHS is divided into 4 countries... all the horror stories you hear are from the English NHS. I know Scots that prefer the Scottish NHS over the English... just because of the quality of care. Yikes.

If I am not mistaken, Obama is modelling something closer to the continental European national healthcare?
