I dont have to tell it to anybody. I see it in real world situations all the time.
 
I have seen enough in real world situation, last night was good one. I proved one of my friend and the problem was the port itself in the modem that is loosen. When I tighten it up, the latency dropped considerable.

I am agreed with you. I remember my old coworker built the computer for himself and use GIG network and he noticed his response is slower than should be for between two computers thru GIG network. He already download driver from company and no luck then he sent email to NIC manufacturer and explain what happen. Few weeks later, he got email back with new driver and response time got BIG improve and work great.

Also, I never like "auto" from network setting. I always switch it to manual and work better.

I don't mean to argue with you about it. I stand by my original statement and the statements in this post. If you believe that the only settings for the nic is addressing you are wrong. If you dont think that any of the nic settings have an impact on ping results you are wrong again.

BINGO.... You get it. This is exactly what I am talking about. There are many nic settings that can be adjusted to maximize network performance. Each nic and driver will have different sets of paramaters with many in common. Offloading features also increase system performance by moving some of the burden down the stack to the physical layer. Many of the newer nics have offloading capabilities.

Dude, I hate getting into a pissing contest about something that I know to be true. I am not saying DHB is wrong in how he troubleshoots but when he says nic settings have nothing to do with ping results and that addressing is the only thing that can be set on a nic he is simply wrong.
