hi i am a hearing person and i really like music and i know that Deaf like music too. i know that they feel the vibrations and probably feel them better than i can. i have done some reading on the subject and i wish i could find the particular article but it said that when deaf people are expierancing music by feeling the vibrations that in the hearing part of their brain, a golf ball sized area becomes active that does not become active in a hearing person who listens to music.
i was wondering if anyone else read similar articles or knows anything about this. but more specificaly i was i was wondering if there was anything like all deaf concerts. like a soundproof building where deaf people could gather and turn up the amplifers really really loud and feel the music. i love it when there is really loud music and i can feel it vibrating through me. it is awesome. this building would have to be sound proof so the sound waves don"t escape to outside because it would be so loud that it would hurt the hearing people's ears and be very painful. ouch. and hearing people could come too and where earplugs. :)
i have been thinking alot about this and think it would be really fun. a person could have concerts or just play all differnt music from cds or MP3 players and dance and have a good time. i think it would be really cool and i was wondering if anything like this was already going on and if people would find this as fun as i think it would.
let me know what you guys think about this.
looking forward to your replies. :D

I just put my feet on my subwoofer, when I used to have one before I had mice problems. Long story. Now I just rest my hands on the computer.

Now, um, I have been to a few hard-of-hearing parties where it is like you said. Landlords don't like them and they hurt sometimes, even as a severe-profound deaf person. But yeah, at those parties, they like to put the speakers on the ground. I am not too big a fan of those ones.

Instead, I prefer the high-tech nightclubs where the soundboard is hooked up to the floor to produce vibration without having to amplify the sound. That and I also prefer concerts. Reason why? Better acoustics. A good venue will have good acoustics, regarding room design, to allow the vibration to bounce around the room without the need to soundproof the building to produce the effect you are inquiring about.

ah ok. yes acoustics of a room are important. they have clubs where they hook up the soundboard to the floor? oh wow i gotta get out more. ha. very cool though. i have noticed at one club that i used to go to alot that the floor was vibrating. hmm maybe that is what they did.

If you can, go to a local drumming circle, and ask the organisers if you can sit in the middle of it during the climaxing periods of their sessions. Just plop right down on the floor, close your eyes. Maybe this will open up your eyes to what is tolerable and what is not. Hearing people should be able to do this without having to worry about damage to the eardrum.

Wooden floor works best.

No wonder, that is why I love the Powwow drumming because I get to feel the drum every time I dance around the circle. I try to stay close to the drums when they play and sang as loud as they can. They had to beat the drum like as if we have a heart beat. I love to feel the viberation of the native drums. Yeah, I remembered going to nightclubs or New Year's Eve Party where they have loud music and I felt them a lot. I don't know how the hearing people can stand very loud music. They could become deaf if they are not careful with too much loud music like that. :hmm:

oh yeah, definately. my exboyfriend was in a metal band i would go to his shows and other band would play too. and wow yeah very vibratey. him and i wore ear plugs alot, well until he had to go on stage and then he took them out. we could still hear with them in but not very good. everyone at metal shows yells to each other anyway but i think we were probably yelling extra loud alot of the times. ha ha.
i think an indoor rave yould be really good too. i love electronic music, Techno, Trance, House, Drum and Bass. Drum And Bass is a big favorite. it is really bumpy and vibratey! :)
so you like a lot of metal then? i like a lot of electronic, really bassy stuff. i guess that is why i like Drum And Bass so much. :)

o cools thanks. i will totally do that. my aunt goes to drumming circles with her friends sometimes. i am sure i could tag a long. i will ask her about it. :)

i love powwows. i used to go every year when i was little. it has been a while since i have gone. i would dance during the intertribal dances when anyone could dance. so fun. yeah the drums are super good there. :)

yeah hearing people do listen to music too loud sometimes. i have two musician friends who have lost some of their hearing from playing at concerts and not wearing earplugs. one of them is only slightly affected and the other who is a drummer has lost a bit more.

if i am in a car and people have the music loud i always ask them to turn it down and i roll down the window so the soundwaves aren't bouncing around in there so much. i think this helps anyway. it makes me feel like the waves are leaving the car and not all trapped inside with me. makes me feel better about it anyway. :)

yeah, been a headbanger for years. Metallica, Judas Preist, Iron Maiden Diamond Head, Motorhead, Accept and Black Sabbath (I actually wore the vinyl LPs out).

like all kinda of music though. Southern Rock, Classic Rock, Jam Bands, Blues and even Rockabilly.

just detest the hip hop and that rap crap :barf:

never tried much eletronic music. guess i should give it a try. :hmm:
what do you recomend? like a site or myspace music link for a band

As for music genres, I prefer punk, ska and reggae; not for the music, but the feel of the drums, the rhythm guitar, and bassline. Not a lot of modern genres out there that doesn't depend on the lead guitar.

Celtic folk is another one that come to mind that is very rhythm-orientated. Now regarding electronic, it is SUCH a vast genre, that you can't really stereotype them. Some prefer psytrance, other prefers EBM and other subgenres of industrial. Even Rammstein could be considered as part of the electronic genre.

:) ooo!!!! i love sharing electronic music with people but never really get too. so many of my friends listen to other kinds of music so this is very special for me to actually have someone who is intersted in giving it a try. awesome!

today i have been feeling music by touching the computer speakers... i can feel it more in the back than in the front like wear the air moves iin and out. i could find any earpluggs so i put cotton balls in my ears and covered my ears with headphones and then took a folded up bandana and made it realy tight around it all to block out as much sound as i could. it looked really cute actually haha, i think i might wear it out and about in town. but anyway i was trying to find what i thought would feel the nicest.

the cool thing about alot of electronic music, is that there is many times no words at all or maybe a few short phrases being repeated. which is cool cuz i can just think my own thoughts and would be cool i imagine for someone who is deaf cuz if they were listening to it they could just look up the lyrics or have someone sign them to them. a person could look it up anyway. but if the only lyrics are like 3 sentances that are every once in a while being said it be like "hey let me show you this song. the lyrics are these three sentances." and then a person could just chill and listen to it and would know the jist of the song. :) i am hearing but i still like music without alot of lyrics or non at all. it's pure and beautiful. :)

i will find some stuff to reccomend, the bassier the better or does that not matter? like how good are your speakers? i am touching mine right now but i can't turn them up to loud because people are sleeping. :( so i can't tell how good it could be felt. hmmm well i could just post a couple of links and you could tell me if you can feel them good or not. cuz in particular i am wondering about songs with a lot of higher notes, can they be felt good or no? cuz if they can't be felt good i would show you more bassy songs.

electronic music is such a large genre with all of these subgenres... i find it a bit confusing to tell the differance between them but i know a lot of it has to do with how much drums and bass are used and how fast the music is. ha other than that i don't know what seperates them but i guess those are the basics that do.

i will see what i can find that you might like... you like metal so i will find some faster stuff with a lot of notes, cuz i think that would be similar in vibrations. :)

I just download songs that family, friends, and others have recommend that I listen to, then download the lyrics and try to follow it. If I can follow the lyrics and I like the song, I'll keep it.

thought I read someone was asking about music u like....I like metal and hard rock, particularly 80's, and folk, and protest music and some hip hop and rap. I LOVE the pow wow! and like the Celtic music someone mentioned, and Jewish music. Also enjoy some alternative/techno-
because of my hearing loss I have been turning up the music in the car more - hubby was surprised at it!

so i have been feeling music through the speakers and have been finding some stuff. some of electronic music, the bass is like almost too much and too often and it might feel boring so i have been doing the feel test so i can find some good stuff so not everything is the same boom boom boom sound over and over. haha i want to keep it interesting.

this is a bit on the heavier side. it is sorta like metal of electronic music. i am hoping to find more stuff like it. :)

"Breathe with me

Breathe the pressure
Come play my game Ill test ya
Psychosomatic addict insane
Breathe the pressure
Come play my game Ill test ya
Psycho-somatic addict insane

Come play my game
Inhale, inhale, youre the victim
Come play my game
Exhale, exhale, exhale"

this next one is in the genre of music is called house music. it is called house music because it is what people would play if they just wanted to hang out and be relaxed. and it was played a lot at partys that were all relaxed, that people had at their house that.

"The line that curves and cracks the wall in two and points to where your hand is stretched.
My baby, you're everything to me.
When you're gone, there's no one, I'm just lonely.
My baby,
I never use those words, but that's all I could call someone as sweet as you.
Here and now
the air
the light
has burst into between where you and I we rest
unfold and melt like gold"

Hockey - Too Fake

"I'd do anything that I'm told to
I'd even mean it if I'm supposed to
leave me on a little
I go for broke
Leave me on some more
I'd go for the big toke

Everybody's watching oh but nobody cares
Oh wait cause no
Nobody's watching but everybody cares
Oh whatever talk to you later

Chorus
Look out!
Cause I'm just too fake for the world
I know it's just a game to me
I'm just too fake you see
I wish i didn't have to be but watch out
I got too much soul for the world
It's breaking my heart in two
I got too much soul for you
I don't like it but it's true

Get off
I go to church and
I'm expected to be lost soul
They need examples to use
I could stay forever leave right now
It's your call either way
It's time to use my life for myself
(most people just won't tell you that)
I'm gona use my life for someone else, yeah
no wait wait wait wait

Chorus
Look out!
cause i'm just too fake for the world
i know it's just a game to me
i'm just too fake you see
i wish i didn't have to be but watch out
i got too much soul for the world
it's breaking my heart in two
i got too much soul for you
i don't like it but it's true

Hurts right?

but i can't even talk to you
about my effect on people
cause i'm doing the same thing to you
that's right even right now
oh just wait up for me if you want to but

Chorus
Look out, now
i'm just too fake for the world
i know it's just a game to me
i'm just too fake you see
i hope you can forgive me
oh now
Got too much soul for the world
and it's breaking my heart in two
i got too much soul for you
i don't like it but it's true

oh look out now
i'm just too fake for the world
and there's nothing i can do about it
yeah i'm just too fake for you
i don't like it but it's true

Look out
i got too much soul for the world
it's breaking my heart in two
i got too much soul for you
i don't like it but it's true

look out
i'm just too fake for the world
i know it's just a game to me
i'm just to fake you see
i hope you can forgive me

look out now
i'm too fake"

i am not even sure if this is the name of the song or the band. i really wish i knew though because it is really pretty and the man sings it really slowly and um sensually... by the tone of his voice it sounds like he is singing gentley to someone who he is deeply in love with. :)
the lyrics are
"im sinking into you now
watch me disappear
(these two lines are repeated several times)
speak soft
watch me sink into you now
so much better here
so much better here"

ok well that is a few that felt pretty good to my hands. let me know what you think. i wont be offended if it is not your thing... i dont really get offended ha. :)

whook, i like electronica too, had fuckloads of it, somewhere about 10-15 gigs of it lol (accumulated from a well over 8 years of internet experience)

I like tracks from King Size Dub, on U sound, you should try some, I got 1 set of CDs here (legit) and another was stolen ( i know who nicked it, some coconut, anyway he's in jail ha ha- for something else) blah it gonna be hard to source a good clean copy of it .... groan

these days I cant listen to music the tinnitus fucked me over bigtime, so im awaiting the Ci for next year....hopefully it will help alot, many doctors thinks so.

I dont sign much but when i see d/Deaf people , I sign like no one will be able to shut me up lol, only way to do that, is to run away lmao

i like 80's music, new waves genres, hard rock, not so much heavy metal cant hear the damn thing all it is a mush of guitars grubbing senselessly but fine each to their - though i liked Van Halen way back was a VH nut in 84-85like souggy, and dogmom i like those genres too, Devo, dub, reggae, mostly for the rynthm and drums, not so much for their culture (except i can relate devo's slight cynic to politics but them i dont think they were really truely radicals , just music artists. Lots of music bands are like that, just idealistics with no real understanding, songwriters -well on other hand id like to know what really makes them tick.... fascinating people......

move forward to future when i discovered the internet in 1997 then again 1999 then again more clearly (when finally got my own PC build up at home) i got back into music but didnt understand the youth cultures as i was getting older so then I liked the electronic musics which was prevailent in pub scenes of the late 1990's...then yeah from that point i never really went backj to music with lyrics , THen i went to valves stereo building (pc building wasnt enough for me) I got into jazz and classical music (again not much lyrics so it suited me great) as you see my tastes changed over time but i never got let go of the old favs so now i can say i liked 80s' punk, metal, reggae, dub, electrona (techno but prefer dub more mellow pace), jazz (or varioos epouchs), blues, and classical so now whatever im in a mood for music i get selective to pick up my mood or to mellow down to daydream. I tend to think about the past or dreams or 'what life could have been for me if i did this or didnt do this...' like an attempted connection with alter ego in a parrallel universe by the way of cosmic and psyche conflation.

those vids remind me of the soundtrack of some cheesey porn i bought on eBay

interesting though. thanks for sharing :D

These apparently (from the part of one I looked at) are not like some kids school assignment to sign a song.

What is the point of putting these up.

You can't really experience music as vibration over a computer speaker.

If you were really interested, I guess standing by a full big speaker for a concert auditorium you could experience big vibration.

But why?

I like drums and bass as I can hear them, but I don't really understand anything else.

Electronic music is pimp... Trance, Goa, Hardstyle, Gabber, ect. I don't like house though.

well i have i computer speakers with built in subwoofers so i can feel it very good actually, like very intensely. i had my hands on the backs of them where the subwoffers are and i ran a ton of songs through the feel test and was very discerning about wich ones i picked and wich ones i weeded out.

Souggy had already informed me that his computer speakers were quite adequate to feel the music thru, as was mentioned above... and said i should reccomend some electronic stuff.
so i put them up for him.

i only put up songs that were recorded with high end technology that picked up all the freuquencies, low and high.

i only included songs where every sound was represented.

i only put songs up that i could feel every note. so honestly it is not just bass...
what you are feeling is guitar, vocals, random electronic sounds, saxaphones, trumpets etc... and yes drum and bass.

and if you are not feeling it then it is because of your computer speakers... and not my lack of understanding of what can and cannot not be felt through speakers that are appropriate for this type of thing... so yes you "really can experience music as vibration over a computer speaker."
