Increasing the Minimum Wage......

It's good news but bad news for some small businesses.

Europe has higher minimum wage than in US.

That's myth but look in Europe, they have higher minimum wage and low unemployment than in US.

what works for Europeans does not work for Americans and vice versa. Different country, different policy, different laws, different government.

Apple-Orange comparison......

What are you doing if no one want work with your hubby or daughter if wage is very below than federal minimum wage, except for illegal immigrants would interest to get job.

I don't have any idea about where your hubby works and I don't understand why are you blame on minimum wage law?

I was gave you a interest info about minimum wage and living of standard in Europe and US, both of US and many countries in Europe are in great closer relation.

Now, economy is bad and we are face deflation, it means we wouldn't see increase of minimum wage until economy recover soon, that's terrible experience.

You can say if minimum wage is impact on small businesses but for me, it's not really.

you failed to see a simple yet crucial point. Minimum wage set by federal government is designed to create a fair opportunity for workers. However - many small businesses do business "under the table" so the minimum wage law does not apply to them. The workers are FREE to refuse the job offer if the employer is offering too low.

Increasing the minimum wage will undoubtedly cause a financial burden on small businesses and mom n' pop stores. Republicans are famously known to be very resistant to minimum wage hike because its philosophy is that this enable many many many businesses to hire more workers - thus decreasing unemployment rate. Like darkdog said - the workers are FREE to say "sorry no thank you" if the employer is offering $3/hr.

When the gas price goes up, their service/labor fee does not go up otherwise they will lose their customers. What they sacrificed is their margin of profit. If the business is doing everything by the book - they will lose workers too because they no longer cannot afford to pay for a raised minimum wage.

Auto mechanics in a lot of places are O-V-E-R-P-A-I-D.

you too in Canada? typical labor fee is around $90-120/hr in here.

Here, I think it's around $80 and upwards.

:mad2: however.... while their labor fee is ridiculously high, I halfheartedly take pity in mechanics because they do have to buy their own costly tools even at dealerships. One specialized wrench can cost like $800.

It's not true that mechanics earn $80 a hour. They actually earn $25 to 30 a hour on average. That chunk on top of it is for property expenses, tool expenses, etc.

The mechanic next to my work order tools from Snap On tools...those are EXPENSIVE tools. You can always get craftsman or something similar lot cheaper than that.

Ya'll need ta come on down to Texas, ya hear. Yeehaw!!! My mechanic charges very reasonably. And as a bonus, he's actually trustworthy.

For a simple wrench - yea of course they'll go with any cheap one. but cheap tools will not do the job as expensive tools because they're more specialized for a certain task.

that's how much auto mechanics are earning nowadays :mad2:

I am definitely in the wrong field!!! Wow! That's a lot of money per hour.

you'll have to pay for your own certification, training, and tools though. Some employers are generous enough to pay for certificate fee. :(

I have to come up with $6,000 by the end of 2010 to pay for two classes to renew my teaching certificate. If I made $100 an hour, that would be easy to pay for. I dont know how I am gonna come up with the money. It is so stupid...

:eek3: the government helps a lot for veterans. I think the government should go extra miles to help teachers too!

I will get a tax exempt and reinbursement...only after I have passed the classes. I just am not rich enough to have an extra $6,000 lying around. I try to save, but things come up and have to pay for them. I honestly dont know how I am gonna do it. If I cant come up with the money then I guess I lose my job? That's how fucked up the system is.

oh lordy..... borrow money from family members (something that I really hate doing) and pay back once you get reimbursed? :(

The classes I have to take (3 credits each) have to be grad level. Graduate school is more expensive. I wish it wasnt the case...this whole thing just makes me so mad because these are hard times and teachers are famous for not making good money especially at the deaf schools. Oh well. I will figure something out. Just another added unecessary burden, that's all.

That is just wrong. Just wrong. How the hell they expect teachers to be able to come up with these money?
