Is the internet obsolete?

"The Internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds...."

However, even with the best consumer hard drives and RAM memory sticks on the market wouldn't be able to process a download that fast.

Well, you know what that means.

Throw out all the old computers, and buy new.

. . . and the obsolescence cycle goes on....

Marketing genius!

Right, we don't have the technology to keep up with a download of a feature film in only few seconds. If you downloaded a 4.7 GB feature film in 2 or 3 seconds, that's at a rate at around 2 GB/sec. The fastest single hard drives out there have maximum transfer rate of around 100 MB/sec. RAID hard drives are even more faster but they're generally not for the consumer market.

I think that stuff is far from reality, probably for corporate use not for home. I believe that will happen in 10-15 years later as it becomes widespread.

10 - 15 years?! I think probably 3 - 5 years, MAX! Technology increasingly updates so quickly! LOL I don't disagree with you, just hoping it's sooner before I'm an old lady.

Yes. However, that is for standard resolution. For movies in HD, it would be much, much larger. If people want full-quality 1080p video, not heavily compressed like they are on iTunes and Xbox Live, it would be 25 to 50GB or even more.

LOL! I was thinking more of "Computer! Give me a beautiful private beach with all gorgeous men catering to my every whim while all scantily clad in men's bikinis!"

Did you ever see Star Trek TNG when that guy was addicted to Holographic Rooms?

That would be me.

Imagine my family and friends trying to stage an intervention.

Me: "I can stop anytime!"
Them: "Well then come on out of there and show us!"
Me: "Later!"

Yeah... Reginald Barclay (aka "Broccoli"). He was on a few episodes of Star Trek: Voyager.

I'm sure that there will be holo-addiction when holodecks come out. It's just a matter of how we look at it.

Yes, I think holodecks will beat out drugs and alcohol.
Everything you always wanted, just by asking for it. Ahhh. . .

P.S. I remembered his name! Reg Barclay and I remember seeing him show up on Voyager as well. Thanks for reminder about Voyager!

Okay, but that would cost you in the total of one hundred, fifty eight dollars and twenty three cents including shipping and international postage
