Android App Developemt

Have anyone on here learned how to develope android applications? If so, what did you start off learning, what tools, books, tutorials, or books did you use?

I tried to learn android app learning through a course on FutureLearn. Never finished the course even though I have taken many many other courses over the years. More recently did Ruby, PHP, jQuery.. just started javascript even though I've taken javascript courses in the past.

With the FutureLearn one I had a hard time following it- half the time the lessons were not exactly clear or informative to be able to understand what to do even though I know the basics of how coding/programs works.

Would like to get back into learning android app programming or iOS apps.

You can try FutureLearn or CourseEra. It's a bit difficult following the course and working on Eclipse where it can take a long time run the application and to execute your Java program.
You need to learn Java so that you can develop Android applications.

FutureLearn-- it is definitely difficult-- even the seasoned programmers in the group I was in had a hell of a time following the lessons. Otherwise their set up is good- they do use video but provide a transcript.

CodeAcademy is also a good place to learn but does not have android programming yet.
