Don't go in the water

Winter is about to give away into spring and then summer. Many Americans will be planning local vacations due to high gas prices. One destination are the many wonderful beaches of our three coast. However, because of Obama's budget (my source) many families will be in grave danger. I can remember several instances when the beaches of Galveston Island were "closed" due to high feces matters and/or other dangerous impurities in the water. Now Obama had cut funding to the states to monitor contamination at our beaches. Without monitoring, families are in danger of a member getting sick with the likes of diarrhea. Elevated levels of bacteria in the water comes about from a lack of sanitation and monitoring these bacteria levels not only keep the public safe but also give the state means to go after the offenders.
Obama had seen fit to reduce the states ability to protect the public's health which in turn will prevent people from having the necessary information to know today is not a good day to go in the water, and they they still might go and get sick. Obama has replaced JAWS.

He swims in a pool that certainly is protected by chlorine in the water. So no worries.

Re: open water swimming, you can always contact the local water and sanitation department and see what they are doing to measure bacteria counts. Major tourist areas will publicize the information sometimes, on local websites or the local paper or TV or at the lifeguard stands and so on.

Sadly, even though I live within 10 miles of the beach, I can no longer go. I am unable to walk in the sand of the beach anymore.

I am in West Palm Beach, so it's not the Gulf Coast. I am on the Atlantic. I have fibromyalgia as well as neuropathy. My right leg is totally numb and I cannot pick up the foot to walk normally. I did find, that if I go to Delray Beach, I can get a wheelchair with "beach wheels" and a lifeguard takes you out to the water. You are strapped into the chair and it will let you get in the water and keep you floating. Not above the water, but in it, but keep your head above water.

There was a place in Florida when I was a kid on the ocean side that let you swim in a pool with dolphins. I will have to do a search for it, but there was a story about a child that had been in a traumatic accident and refused to respond or walk (vegetative state). His parents would take him there and the dolphins "adopted" him and coaxed him out of it somehow.

It was an amazing story.

I don't use public pools...think about all the people that pee in it!...As far as the Beach, yeah I do. But whenever I get back home, I take a good, hot, steaming shower.
