Yeah Koko....don't you know anything. It was the police enforcing the law for all citizens that caused the problem.

And yeah, I am sure the local business owners and taxpayers are THRILLED!

I think you're right. I had hoped this thread would open up intelligent informed discussions about the events that led to the formulation of OWS and constructive inputs on what can be done to make things better but...heh, wishful thinking, I guess.

Yet the event themselves led to all kinds of nasty stuff that I've listed. It's a leaderless enterprise.

BTW, the "99%" is a huge misnomer and myth. But I undertand about the need to help improve quality of life. Nothing but a "feel good" number to tout around without any veracity to it.

Statement from Chief Lanier Regarding Occupy DC

While the Occupy DC movement has been here since October 6, 2011 and the Metropolitan Police Department supports an individual’s right to assemble, we do not condone nor will we tolerate violence or aggression. Prior demonstrations had been peaceful. However, the aggressive nature of Friday’s demonstration prompted the Metropolitan Police Department to adjust tactics as needed to ensure safety.

MPD will continue to protect life (residents, visitors, protestors --everyone) and property as warranted. The administration will do what’s necessary to maintain order in the city and to ensure that everyone is safe.

Five people that we are aware of were injured. That is no longer a peaceful protest. Demonstrators have become increasingly confrontational and violent toward uninvolved bystanders and motorists. Demonstrators have also jeopardized the safety of their own children by using them in blockades. The following videos highlight such actions by demonstrators:

Intentionally Blocking Traffic/putting little children in the street

Occupiers Use Kids to Block DC Convention Center - Occupy Wall Street - Fox Nation - YouTube

"Occupy DC" Violently Raids Tea Party's "Defending the American Dream Summit"...many injured - YouTube

Blockading people from leaving the Convention Center

Regarding the traffic incident and allegations of hit and run, MPD is investigating and is seeking any evidence and witness statements. Anyone with information should contact police by calling (202) 727-9099 or 1-888-919-CRIME (1-888-919-2746).

Police Chief

Using children as a shield to block people in buildings and stopping traffic on the street? Isn't that what cowards do? Man, endangering their own children. What's next?

TB isn't a funny thing especially when it's quite infectious.

I'm glad to hear that. I never thought the protesters caused people to stay away. In fact, it'd be stupid to turn away the protesters as they'd be customers too.

That doesn't sound right.

I've checked this out and phonorecord is the source.
Quote:
ATLANTA -- A homeless shelter that has been housing more than 100 "Occupy Atlanta" protesters has tested positive for tuberculosis (TB), WGCL-TV reported Thursday.

At least two people at the Atlanta shelter have contracted the air-borne disease, a highly contagious bacterial infection that affects the lungs and other organs.

"One of these persons was confirmed to have a strain of TB that is resistant to a single, standard medication,"
Fulton County Services Director Matthew McKenna said in a written statement to WGCL-TV.

He said both infected people have begun treatment and are being monitored. It is unclear if the two cases were among the homeless population or the anti-Wall Street protesters.

The shelter has become one of the city's largest bases for "Occupy" protesters since police shut down an encampment at a municipal park last month.

The Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless indicated that two cases have been made public knowledge to the protesters.
That's extremely high for a shelter but that's still a far cry from the entire population of OWS in Atlanta.

Makes you wonder how much they have covered up

Quote:
At about 4:45pm Thursday evening, a crowd of thirty surrounded a man apparently shot in the leg at Frank Ogawa Plaza. He appeared unconscious when I arrived at the scene, a full ten minutes before the police and ambulance arrived. Women were screaming, and many in the crowd were moaning from the unexpected traumatic event. Several were shouting, “no pictures” and linking arms around the injured young man.

There were no police officer visible on the scene.

A man in the crowd attacked me when I attempted to take a photo and he threw the cell phone camera some 20 feet away. Another in the crowd returned the phone.

A few feet away a TV cameraman was shooting footage and a crowd of twenty or so men attacked and punched him, forcing him over the railing of the 14th Street BART Station.

Tomorrow marks the one-month anniversary of Occupy Oakland and organizers had planned a celebration.

Another account. looks like the Occupy movement is against the 1st Amendment while claiming their first amendment rights have been violated at the same time.

Quote:
Just moments before NBC Bay Area's Jodi Hernandez was to go on the air with a live report, she reported hearing shots fired near Occupy Oakland.

Hernandez said she heard 6 to 8 gunshots on the south side of Frank Ogawa Plaza followed by screaming from people in the area at 4:59 p.m.

Police were not in the area at the time.

An ambulance arrived at the scene within a few minutes to treat the victim of the shooting. The injury appeared to be serious with emergency workers performing CPR on the man before he was taken away to the hospital. That man did not survive. He was declared dead after arriving at the hospital.

@scott_c_johnson tweeted" "Bystanders weeping, chaos, police everywhere, sirens,"

Hernandez said the mood prior to the gunshots was festive, adding people at the campground were getting ready to have a birthday cake to mark the one month anniversary of the encampment.

That changed dramatically after the shooting as it turned from calm to chaos. Police swarmed Frank Ogawa Plaza and closed off some streets in the area.

Hernandez reported that two Bay Area photographers covering the story were injured in the melee that followed the shooting. One of the photographers worked at KGO and suffered a cut to his head. He was apparently attacked by members of the occupy movement who did not want him to videotape the victim. The second photographer who was hurt was from KTVU. He said Occupiers wrestled him to the ground.

Occupy Oakland protesters told reporters the man who was shot was not part of their camp. They said they didn't recognize him and said the shooting was not occupy related. In fact, some people on the scene said the man was coming to the area for help and/or protection.
