Hateful note to McCain supporter

Well, this isn't very nice.
Quote:
Misguided note

Recently, I took my wife to the Boat House Restaurant on East Bay Street [Charleston, SC] for dinner. When I came out, there was a [drink] coaster with some writing on it that said, "You creep, I hope you end up in Iraq or Russia fighting for your buddy McBush."

Obviously, this was put there because of what I display on my car. In the back window there is a McCain sticker, on my windshield there is a Naval Weapons Station sticker and on my license plate a frame that states, Alumni, U.S. Naval Academy. I was angered that someone would write something like that and put it under my wiper.

I have a perfectly legitimate reason for displaying what I believe and am somewhat proud that Sen. John McCain is my choice for president, not only because he is the most qualified but because he is a classmate and good friend.

I know his whole family, including his father before he passed away, and, by coincidence, his sister Sandy who was married to an officer on my first submarine.

I served 30 years in the Navy, the first 17 years in submarines. I commanded a ballistic missile submarine that helped us win the Cold War.

I know that the person who wrote the note doesn't appreciate what I did for him and my country, but I couldn't help but think of how hurtful that note would be to a young Marine who was about to depart for Iraq or, even worse, one who had come back wounded.

I wish the person who wrote the note would realize that the people who serve in the armed forces are serving and dying for their country and the people of this great country — even him — and he should appreciate it.

I highly doubt anyone on here would complain if someone wrote a similar note to an Obama supporter.

I gotta admit that I feel like throwing eggs at the McCain/Palin signs.

But one shouldnt write a note like that to an innocent person anyway.

Angry

*unsurprisingly and undisturbingly looks*

Just like those jerks who burned a Christian's car because of his/her belief on it... those jerks who trashed an Asian driver's car because s/he's a Japanese... go on what I read some entries, comments, personal journals, etc etc... Well, it's not my first time to see this like what I read some hateful notes to both Obama and McCain supporters... still, there are no reasons for treatin' those supporters like a shit. =/

Oh, boy, it's a such shallow and immature... extremely annoying...

Indeed, it is wrong, no matter who is targeted.

I gotta agree with shel90 on the egging lawn signs. I probably wouldn't do it though because its so immature.

Yeah.. I don't feel it's a good idea to toss some rotten stuff toward some signs, houses have a sticker or flag type of supporter, cars, etc etc... I don't find it a respect to do it because it's pretty disgrace, in my personal opinion.

What bothers me most is that people always try to sway you to their side by a blatant appeal to your emotions and sense of outrage.

This has nothing to do with the presidential election.

It is so wrong.

Sending any hateful message or threat to any Obama & Biden and McCain & Palin supporters are completely unacceptable. Just respect their choices although you can agree to disagree with them on various issues.

This is exactly right. I have become disillusioned when it comes to those type of stories, and sometimes I think they are made up in order manipulate emotions. Don't get me wrong, I think we should treat each other with utmost respect, and I'd be pissed if someone does something like that. However, this should NOT affect the way you vote or think about candidates.

I agree with some of you that it is not very nice to do that to that man. It shows me obviously that if, McCain/Palin should win by election then, there's goin' to be a civil war -- because of what that man did to his car with a note and that's a sign of hateful leadin' to civil war. That's one of my biggest concerns. I am hopin' that there's nothin' happen after election in despite of who wins.

I've noticed people that are actin' crazy nowdays - worse than before.

It is a hateful of that person.

And ignorant due to the person assuming that the owner of the vehicle has never served the country.

This is not made up; this is about a local veteran in my local newspaper.

I myself have experienced similar things during past elections. My car has been targeted by "unfriendly" fliers left on my windshield, specifically referring to my choice of candidate. In fact, someone came into our church parking lot one time, and left fliers on several cars during the church service. So it happens.

I'm not trying to manipulate any emotions; no one is going to change his or her vote just because this is posted.

So why him and not others' experience being reported? Bumper stickers elicit response and people are shocked when they receive it?

Oh no no, I'm sure its true. It sounds like it would happen a LOT actually. My point was when it comes to issues like that, you aren't surprised if a Democrat leaves nasty notes on a Republican's windshield, but you also aren't surprised if someone made up a story about how a Democrat was verbally attacked by a Republican, because people WILL resort to those immature tactics around political time.

It was "reported" because the person wrote a letter to the editor about his experience. Not everyone bothers to write letters to the editor.

I thought it was clear from my original post and citation that it was a letter to the paper's editor.

BTW, I see many bumper stickers every day during my commute and in the college parking lot that I don't agree with, or that are downright offensive but it would never occur to me to vandalize a car, or leave a nasty note on the car, or bother the people in the car.

Same here. When a freak incident happens, I see no reason to report it. Apparently, the issue hits too close to home for the person to report it?

People may not agree with other's beliefs, but they should not do hatred actions.

I am not into showing support for presidents. When we vote, it is personal. Also, I wondered since McCain talks about throwing out wasteful spending, don't you think those signs people display in front of their homes are wasteful spending as well? Not to mention bad for the landfills?

A military person with a political bumper sticker along with a military base sticker is upset that someone responds. That equation = a candidate's promise toward wasteful spending and landfills? Let's stick with the point of this thread, people.

The concern popped in my head. I couldn't help it. It gets boring. We know it's wrong, wrong, wrong. What else can we say? I threw in some concern that I felt was more interesting that could lead to more discussions.

The general consensus (on any side of the political spectrum) is that it is wrong. I do not understand why this is posted in the first place . . . nor I understand ClearSky's posting.

. . . and so we talk about nothing, really. Is that the intent of this thread?
