OK. I can't afford any new car.

Yes, I'm happy not to live in Europe.

Polar bears are endangered species and are frequents visitors of ANWR.

I'm sure that if you are walking along the South Carolina beaches, hand in hand with hubby being romantic, that looking out into the horizon of the ocean and seeing oil wells would picturesque. NOT!

Guess this discussion is going to be "agree to disagree." I been to ANWR and it is one of the most beautiful places on earth and just don't see any justification drilling for oil there.

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge - The Debate

The above link will take you to different points of view on the ANWR debate.

What's interesting is that there is 5 different organizations in support of the drilling and 13 against.

USA isn't in position to invade Iran right now, unless if Iran is poses to threat USA then invasion of Iran is needed and Afghan is other way.

Both of US and Afghan military are currently looking after on Al Qaeda, just need end of Al Qaeda but it would taking while for process to be success.

Iraq has been done with that, lesson were teach after invasion were done in last 5 years but still war right now.

That's right. USA is still looking for Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. They are hide in the cave. It's hard to find them. I am hope they will find them then kill them. Afghanistan will be freedom from Tabulation. I watched a movie about Tabulation. It's very sad story! It's true story!

Iraq is almost done and be freedom this country since Saddam was a dictator this country. I am happy that Saddam hanged!

The problem is Iran want to threat on Jesus's homeland at West Bank. I would like to explain to you but I don't want to post it about religions. I am stuck to post.

I can't believe that Terrorist people are build the bomb and explore at USA and London, UK.

Actually, the earth can repair itself. Look at the sites where there were large volcanic explosions or wildfires or major earthquakes or floods. Within a few years, vegetation and animals return.

I'm not saying that's an excuse for recklessness or greed. We should still be safety conscious and environmentally aware. But we don't need to let caution freeze us in our tracks.
because those areas are within suitable environmental conditions/parameters that allow rapid growth. Not Alaska. Look at Iceland. It's known for motorcycle journey because of its wide suitable terrain for dirt bike. Although you are not allowed to stray off the course (road), the riders still do it and the tire marks would remain visible on the terrain for a few hundred years. It's that sensitive.

I really don't know; maybe he wants to diversify.

I'm not opposed to finding alternative means of energy. I believe that using one kind of energy doesn't negate also using another. We should tap into all the resources possible.

Are those exact paths of the polar bears the areas that will be drilled? Or are they hundreds of miles away?

If they were drilling off shore from South Carolina, the platforms wouldn't even be visible to the naked eye from the beach.

Charleston is an important international port. We watch large tankers, bulk cargo, container, and ro-ro ships go by all the time. How would having AMERICAN drilling platforms off shore be worse than depending on foreign ships delivering oil to our ports?

OK. I believe drilling for oil and maintaining wildlife areas don't need to be mutually exclusive goals, if done correctly.

I think we need to stop relying heavily on oil and find alternative use for energy/fuel.

that's why I think it's good for us that gas price is high and causing a big ouch in everybody's pocket. This means we will adapt and change for good!

The 5 to 13 ratio isn't important. Not all groups are created equal in size, credibility, objectivity, or influence.

I also opened and read some of the links that weren't specifically under the "oppose" or "support" categories, and found more support, particularly from some of the indigenous groups.

well the only way oil companies will keep us addicted to oils is if they can bring down the gas price to $2-3 which is probably not going to happen. They have no choice but to invest on new capitalism - the alternative energy. Don't forget - it IS a profitable field. Don't think you'll be getting free or ultra-cheap energy just cuz you got your power from wind or water.

Well, Byrdie, allow me to allay some of your tree-hugging fears! Of all the places I have been to, Alaska's my favorite. I trust those in Congress who set up regs as to where in the ANWR oil & gas drilling can take place. I don't think most people really know just where this area is. The area allowed within the ANWR for drilling is a relatively tiny area. This area is neither a refuge nor wilderness; it was specifically set aside by Congress for oil and gas exploration because of its well known evidence of said commodities. It has practically no life and is barren.

So let's be careful not to believe the entire area of ANWR is open to exploration. In fact, the area set aside for this activity has a footprint of just 2, 000 acres! That's what.....less than 1/2 of a percent of the entire area.

The thing that bugs me is that development cannot proceed without Congressional say-so and they (we all will) rue the day that this issue was on the back burner for so long. Had they proceeded ten years ago there and elsewhere in the USA, we would be online now!!!! It takes about that long! Get some backbone, already, Congress!!

Yup, I do understand about gas price is really outrage but I was explain about drilling wouldn't help to cut the gas price in big time, it would probably several cents off, some left unchange or some are still rise. I just favor into other energy source or alternative fuel, that would very helpful to cut the energy cost in big time, only cons is we have to replace the vehicle to meet the standard and it will taking about decade to more common.

For me, I'm using common sense with life to prevent from bother on high gas price, such as move to place that's closer to work or other cities that's offers great public transportation, however I know it's not for everyone, such as farmers or employees that require to lift the heavy material to transport it or semi-truck that's shipping freight to retail or businesses.
Ditto...

Yes, I use my good common sense with kind of life I lead to when I use a car to travel to work everyday... Gasonline and foods expenses... I do something to change it...

If I want to go shopping then use bicycle... to get something small like milk, bread, fresh meats, etc.

If we need big shopping like big foods and drinks for week... then do that once a week is saturdays.

If we want to go city for shopping spree then take a train instead of drive and park there because car park there is very expensive... Use train is cheaply.

At the moment many scentists are trying to do something with oil... German scentists are trying to use water and corn for car instead of gasonline... successful?
