WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers added 96,000 jobs in August, a tepid figure that points to the economy's persistent weakness and slowing prospects for the unemployed.

The unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent from 8.3 percent in July. But that was only because more people gave up looking for jobs. People out of work are counted as unemployed only if they're looking for a job.

The sluggish job growth could slow the momentum President Barack Obama hoped to gain from his speech Thursday night to the Democratic National Convention.

They could also make the Federal Reserve more likely to unveil a new bond-buying program at its meeting next week. The goal would be to lower long-term interest rates to encourage borrowing and spending.

Hourly pay fell in August, manufacturers cut the most jobs in two years and the number of people in the work force dropped to its lowest level in 31 years. The government also said 41,000 fewer jobs were created in July and June than first estimated.

I'm have hard time to look for different job during lacking job at online. I hate it. I miss newspaper to find job which was easy for me to find.

That's better than job losses, zero jobs however the number isn't very good.

I think that find a job online is very unreliable, IMO.

It really does not matter if our unemployment rate is 8% or 11%. Either you have to be able to make money or not.

Yet another attempt to post a thread on the "bash Obama for low employment rates" eh? :sadwave:

There was a time when I found some ads in the newspaper offering jobs in Dallas. When I contacted them, they said the job offers were out of Dallas like in Houston, Austin, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, etc... jeez.

Well, I don't see any bashing against Obama and this thread met with Naisho's guideline about use president name or politician name. Having low number of job growth isn't good looking for Obama and those problem could have consequence on election. That's will hurt us, especially me, I support him due to GLBT rights and welfare.

If you have problem with this thread so you should report to moderator instead of post here. I don't want to see other members pull your legs down and filled with unnecessary post.

Really really bad numbers. 43 months above 8%. That will really take a toll on us for a while.

That's how post-recession looks like and it is very ugly situation.

I doubt that administration change will going keep unemployment down and it will take years to see down, even 10 years - look at Japan.

My sister has same problem and she can't find any jobs for one year after put a lot of applications, probably much as 100+ but only few calls and no one want hire her. There is other problem - because my sister abandoned the job without formal resignation at twice at 2 different old jobs. She seems have a poor employment record that affect her to get another job.

I submitted formal resignation at my old work and have a good employment record, despite about many accidents related to my disability.

I'm sure there are job opening in oil drilling (North Dakota or Alaska) or truck drivers, but not many people want works because away from their families.

Thanks for the tip, Dad.

My thinking was based on what happened to this thread, locked within minutes of being posted: http://www.alldeaf.com/war-politica...4-5-million-new-jobs-created-under-obama.html

I don't know about why other one moved to political section, probably strong political opposition. BTW, I didn't report this moved thread and I didn't realized until I saw in political section so don't consider me as blame for report.

RR's sons won't have any freedom, no election in China.

For the record...my boys ain't gonna go to China!....:giggle:...they no speak'em Chinese....Maybe they'll get into Politics....

I disagree

I disagree

I don't care if you are disagree and it isn't my opinion, but it was varies of economist's opinion about how long will job recover. You are just use as excuse that you don't want Obama in the office and what are you doing if Romney fail to keep unemployment down to under 8% + slow job growth? Is it turn for other democrat to win again?

The recession resulted from 2007-2008 financial crisis are going to be VERY LONG and SLOWER to recover, no matter about whoever government will try to fix it.

Not forget to mention about Great Depression? It took VERY LONG TIME to recover.
