Ex-Xbox man predicts death of consoles
![]() Speaking to ThatVideoGameBlog Duncan said, "The industry is fundamentally driven by technology. I think dedicated games devices, i.e. consoles and handhelds, will die [out] in the next five to ten years." Duncan was with Microsoft for 15 years before leaving to co-found YoYo Games. Having established the Xbox business in Europe he knows a few things about launching new hardware, and observed there are huge risks involved. He predicted that as companies attempt to reduce these, there will be "a definite 'convergence' of other devices such as set-top boxes". "There's hardly any technology difference between some hard disc video recorders and an Xbox 360, for example," Duncan stated. "In fact in five to ten years I don’t think you’ll have any box at all under your TV; most of this stuff will be "virtualised" as web services by your content provider." Source |

Well, if we are talking about digital downloads... then no, I don't see it happening within 5 years. You can download small games and demos, but what people don't realize is that most internet providers put a cap on how much bandwidth you can use per month. Many cap their connections at approximately 30GB to 60GB per month. So if a full game like Final Fantasy being at 20GB to 50GB in 5 years... ain't happening. You would have to buy it on physical media.
Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3 is going onto a 50GB disc and never will be released onto Xbox 360 or any other consoles because of storage and technical issues. Many games on DVD are already heavily compressed compromising the overall quality of gaming experience. That's why a lot of games don't last longer than 10 - 15 hours, it's because they can't fit any more onto a 9.4GB DVD. |

I saw a commercial for the Playstation X. Looked awesome!
Seriously, anything could happen... but I doubt video game consoles will die out.

But I doubt about game handhelds, will die out around the next five to ten years. Look GB did not die out yet. PSP is still powerful handheld since 2005 PSP released. |

What happened was this guy was in a world where he was doing real action, shooting, fighting, running, thinking, etc... then everything zoomed away... until you see the camera zoom out of the player's eye... as he looks away from his new Playstation X. It was a way of saying, the Playstation X could be the future where it takes you into a new world of gaming where you are actually involved in your games.

GB is usually live about up to 10 years but no compare to console because Nintendo kept redesign and other thing like that.

I know it's not real. I was simply pointing out that anything could happen in the future.
Look at my previous post before that one. I said I knew it wasn't real.
