Composite vs. Component (Wii)

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162297/p-2.html
For those who have a HDtv and Wii, here is a comparsion of Componenent vs Composite with the Wii. Hover your cursor over the screenshots to see the component version of a picture. HUGE difference.

That's awesome and Nintendo is already offers VGA cable (known as D-Cable) then can hook on monitor and get better picture quality.

VGA and Component are same quality. Because they are analog. I hate composite as yellow, red and white. It is very old. Component is much better than composite. Yes, you can see difference.

I want is DVI and HDMI is digital and much better quality than VGA and Component.

Are you sure? DVI and component is the same in terms of video quality. I'd go for component or DVI/HDMi.

It is a fact,

Analog Component Video
Component video may refer to "analog" component video (YPbPr), especially with regard to the Y, Pb and Pr

IF you're being very picky about picture quality, you won't see a BIG difference. Component and DVI is NOT much of a difference. Most people would be happy with DVI, Component or HDMI. Why do you think that most HDTV have component? Try experimenting component and DVI to see for yourself. My friend says it's not much of a difference to notice. I'm just trying to save you from waste of time and money.

I do have DVI and component. I am happy with DVI than VGA. It is more crisper than VGA. Why dont you test this one? I do like component is better than composite. Does your friend have experience with HDMI? HDMI is just really new for everyone. Vamprox want to know about composite and component is no huge difference. Just very small difference. Those are analog. Yes, HDTV does have component can supports up to 720p. HDMI can support all the way to 1080p. Do you notice that new computers going to DVI more often than VGA? Some HDTV had DVI, but not many. They changed DVI to HDMI. I don't waste my time. Do you have HD-DVD? I had one and see BIG difference.

I use DVI for to connect my LCD to my Mac. I use component to connect my PS2 to the TV. I know that component supports up to 1080i not P due to bandwith limits. Basically they have pretty much the same video quality, the only difference is bandwidth. Have a great evening.

Sjones, that's odd because there is a slight difference between the vga and conponent cables. Speaking from my experience, Vga is much better and better picture than conponent. Hdmi and dvi are same idential however for 1080p and 40 inch or up hdtv tv, and then hdmi is a supreme picture than dvi because hdmi is only that can handle 1080p capture.

Sighs!

Do you hook up VGA or DVI on your LCD monitor from your PC? Do you notice something difference between VGA and DVI? Check that again.

Also you will be shocked about this.

video connections on a scale of 1-10 (1-worst, 10-best):

HDMI/DVI - 10
Component - 9
S-Video - 6
VGA - 5
Composite - 3
Coaxial - 1

I told you so! HDMI and DVI are same anyway! DVI still can support 1080p.

Look at VGA rating 5! Component is 9. Are you suprised?

Other notes:

Copper Based DVI Cables
Copper based DVI cables are available in lengths 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 25, 30, 40 and 50 feet. These cables are HDCP compliant.

HDTV Resolutions Supported: The 1-30 foot cables are good for resolutions up to 1080p. The 40 and 50 foot cables are good for resolutions up to 1080i. With a DVI Repeater/Booster the 40 and 50 foot cables are good for resolutions up to 1080p.

Computer Resolutions Supported: The 1-15 foot cables are good for resolutions up to 1920x1200. The 25-50 foot cables are good for resolutions up to 1280x1024. With a DVI Repeater/Booster the 25-50 foot cables are good for resolutions up to 1920x1200.

You have to try to use DVI than VGA on your computer. I don't know if you are using VGA on your computer. I do know that you have new computer should have DVI and I am sure you are using DVI.

For xbox 360, I stayed with component. You might want to try to compare with vga and component on xbox 360. Depends which you use LCD tv or CRT.

VGA is best for CRT. DVI is best for LCD. Let you know that.

I can try that for vga for xbox 360. Soon, I will get new television coming to my house. That television is 60 inches. It had composite, s-video, component, vga, and hdmi. I can experiment with all those. I am not going to do on composite, and s-video. I can test vga, and component and see the difference.

Yes, it is odd for vga and component. It is fact that component is better than VGA. I know it is really suprising about this.

Does your TV (SDTV) has component input? I'm sure that most latest model of SDTV got component input.

Keep in mind that Wii supports resolutions up to 480p.

480i = 640x480
480p = 854x480 (component or better)

As you can see, 480p has more vertical lines than 480i, because for 480p, it's mostly used for "EDTV" or "Enhanced Definition Television."

When you look at the screenshots in the first link provided by Dr. Strangelove, take a very close look at the pixels. Those pixels are stretched out across the screen to fill up the black bars. This blurs the picture and it doesn't look sharp. Take the component from Wii, plug it to the TV, and you will experience a much sharper picture. The numbers at the bottom-right corner of the screen looked sharp and clear. Plus, Zelda: Princess Twilight gets a much better advantage with lots of details, which is best with component.

Makes sense?

I've played Zelda on my SDTV with regular AV inputs and the game just looks great...all sharp and clear. Why, I even heard from some ppl saying Zelda looks just better in 480i than in 480p. no joke.

Oh really!!

That is odd for people said 480i better than 480p. They can not see difference. It is only is SIZE. that 480p show more big screen than 480i.

There are just very small size bigger than 480i. Mouse those pictures and look more carefully.
AND pictures are more clear.

480p have more motion seconds better than 480i.

480p has a wider aspect ratio than 480i.

As I said, 480p has more vertical lines than 480i, and 480p is designed for EDTV and HDTV. If you've ever watched DVD in an HDTV, DVD has a max resolution of 854x480; thus, since you have HDTV, you must set your TV to stretch to widescreen. Otherwise, it will become squished when watched with black bars on an EDTV/HDTV.

Also note that "p" in 480p stands for progressive scan. It draws like this:

Code:
Verticle scan: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,...
"i" for interlaced as in 480i, draws on the first pass, then the second pass in 1/30th of a second:

Code:
Verticle scan pass 1: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
Verticle scan pass 2: 2, 4, 6, 8
Does your SDTV can output a resolution of 480p? Note that verticle lines will be squished together.

That's seems good example about between progressive and interlaced.

basically interlaced works in 2 passes and progressive works in single pass.
