Oh well, it's sounds awesome but I wouldn't mind to own HD-DVD add-on for 1080p and capture an games in HD that support on 1080p. It was work with HD-DVD add-on but true HD quality.

I need wait until next year but currently own 720p and 1080i and looking for new tv that support 1080p.

Steel, I have something for you.

Microsoft has been busy rolling out games, Xbox Live updates, and new console accessories all season long to keep the Xbox 360 from being forgotten during all the PlayStation 3 and Wii launch mayhem. Microsoft started by enabling 1080p output on the 360 with a console dashboard update. Then came the Xbox 360-exclusive Gears of War, which is the best game we've seen thus far from this system generation. Microsoft is now getting ready to launch Xbox Live Video Marketplace. On November 22, Xbox 360 owners will be able to purchase and download select television shows and movies from Xbox Live in standard- or high-definition formats.

With all the recent events and the pending system launches, it's almost easy to forget that Microsoft is also shipping the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player this month. Remember? It's the $200 Xbox 360 HD DVD drive that can play movies in 720p, 1080i, and 1080p high-definition resolutions. The drive is starting to appear in retail, and people who preordered the accessory months ago are already receiving their units in the mail.

The package includes the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player, power supply, a USB connector cable, and installation disc. For a limited time, Microsoft will also bundle the player with an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote and an HD DVD copy of Peter Jackson's King Kong. The HD DVD player installation was as easy as plugging the drive power supply into an open electrical socket, running the setup disc, and connecting the drive to the console with the included USB cable. Microsoft placed two USB ports on the rear of the drive to make up for the lost USB port used for the HD DVD connection on the console. The drive even has the installation notches for the Xbox 360's wireless Wi-Fi adapter.

You'll need to provide your own set of Xbox 360 component or VGA cables to output an HD video feed from the Xbox 360 to an HD display. You should already have a component cable if you have the premium Xbox 360, but you'll need to get the VGA cable for full 1080p movie support because the Xbox 360 can only play HD DVD movies up to 1080i over component cables. We tested the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player on our Westinghouse 37" LVM-37w3 LCD 1080p monitor and found that it could play HD DVD movies at 1080p over VGA, but downgraded the movie image to 1080i over component cables. VGA is your only 1080p option right now because Microsoft hasn't added HDMI support to the Xbox 360 yet.

HD DVD movies looked great on our 1080p display. We used a Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift combo disc that had the HD movie on one side and the DVD version on the other. The 1080p movie had sharper text in the preroll MPAA rating screen, and the picture detail was especially noticeable in close-ups on the actors. GameSpot members can download a set of 480p DVD vs. 720p/1080p HD DVD screenshot comparison images here. The 1080p resolution looked the best to our untrained eyes, but 720p and 1080i also looked very nice. Playback was smooth at all resolutions--720p, 1080i, and 1080p--with no visible tears or artifacts.

The Xbox 360 HD DVD Player looks to be a terrific upgrade for movie fans who already have an Xbox 360 and an HD display. Performance is excellent, and the media remote and King Kong HD DVD movie pack-in items make the $200 price tag even more attractive.

Xbox 360 HD DVD Player Hands-On - Features at GameSpot
USB is does nothing to get HD quality on SDTV but 2 options that get HD quality is from component (all HDTV already included) or VGA cables (all LCD monitors and some HDTV but monitor with DVI only that need get adapter).

It's up to you to buy one for SDTV and picture quality will reduce into level as DVD does. If I was you then I wouldn't buy HD-DVD add-on if I own SDTV unless it was required for some games that support on HD-DVD ROM but not happen right now. That's what Banjo is explain to us about HD-DVD and BD.

PS3 support all of them but BD movies will not get HD quality on SDTV and mode would give all right for picture quality.

You show me a picture about CRT with different input or you just change into new LCD with VGA input? Would you using that with Gamebridge?

You got new monitor with VGA input then go ahead to get official MS VGA cable. It must work with monitor to get HD quality and just find out from MPAA screen if same as HD quality. The red and white input is just for audio, that bring sounds from speaker but need check out with speaker if would work without red and white input.

HD-DVD review from IGN.
IGN: Xbox 360 HD-DVD Drive Review

Some part of Sony HDTV (1080p) wouldn't work with Xbox 360 for get 1080p. I just laughing at Sony about make mistake with their HDTV or who would blame on MS or Sony. I'm glad that I don't own Sony HDTV...

my new monitor's a starlogic 19' flat panel TFT/LCD monitor and here's a picture of the manual so you can see what my montior exactly looks like.
of course, even my monitor have built in speakers...so I dont really know if it would work i mean, could i use my computer and xbox360 same time without having to remove xbox360 vga cable and put in computer vga cable? maybe if i see a complete look of the xbox360 vga cable and see how it works then i perhas could buy it.

Yea, it must be work with MS VGA.

You can buy DVI to VGA adapter for your computer to hook up then no need remove again.

are you serious? cause if i do get ms vga cable, it would replace the computer vga cable? i mean, my vga cable connects from my montior to my cpu so...what will happen to cpu if i just connect ms vga cable to monitor and xbox360 only? or do i have to switch between cables to use computer and to play videogames?

Does your CPU has VGA input? It's like 15 pin with D.

of course. a cable for each end. one end for the monitor and one end for the cpu...so thats why I'm confused that the vga cable doesnt seem to have like THREE ends...one for montior, one for cpu, and one for the xbox360 console.

It must be work for all of them.

Just give an chance to try it but need buy DVI to VGA adapter from store (Wal-Mart, Circuit City or Best Buy) and get MS VGA then ready for hook up. If you already had VGA cable for computer then hook in VGA to DVI adapter. You can switch with 2 screen, from computer into 360.

Okay let me get this straight.

DVI to VGA adapter is like a second vga input right? I connect it on the DVI input on the montior, then connect the xbox360 vga cable to the VGA end of the adapter and...thats it?
