Deaf story line on "Medium" tonight

I don't think anyone has posted this yet.

I've never watched the show Medium but I saw this in today's newspaper:

"Do You Hear What I Hear"
The kidnapping of a wealthy deaf girl causes Allison to lose her hearing ability; Joe and Cynthia pick up the slack while Allison copes with her handicap.

It's on at 10 p.m. (EST) tonight (Feb. 18)

Thanks for the heads up.

I usually watch Medium once in a blue moon. It's not often that I get to watch it but since this one is related to a deaf character, I'll be sure to watch it. Thanks, again.

Yes, It'll be on NBC. It'll be on at 10 pm (Eastern), 9 pm (Central). Since you're in California, I am not sure what time it will be shown on Pacific Time. You might want to check it up with your local tv guide to find out what time it'll be airing.

Here is the link to the Medium website --

Thanks for heads-up, Reba. As someone said, Medium plays at 10 Eastern Time, 9 Central Time. The other times are 9 Mountain Time, and 10 Pacific Time.

I LOVE watching Medium shows.

This one, it was rather somewhat interesting. Nothing too exciting, but just interesting on what the major charactor, Allison experiences going deaf for a little while, while the girl is being held away....

What was your opinion on this show after watching it last night?

i never watched this show before until i checked last night's episode, and i wasn't very impressed. i guess it's not my kind of show... plus they didn't really do a great job portraying the characteristics of a deaf person.

"Medium" was . . . er . . . medium

I have an interest in psychics for a writing project, so I’ve watched Medium before. “Do You Hear What I Hear?” was “medium.”

Thanks to Reba’s heads up, I had friends over, so I got to interpret the brief segments of ASL which were neither subtitled for the general public nor on closed captions. The first was one kidnapper signing “Quiet (or I’ll) hurt you.” I thought no interpretation of any sort was strange, but it was only one missed opportunity.

Allison’s sudden deafness putting her in tune with the kidnapped deaf girl, Nicole, had great potential. Allison had some neat observations about what it was like to be totally without sound. I liked the techie part where Joe used his laptop to “talk” to Allison. He then used it to interpret what was said by the detective, but of course that way too slow for the hearies (both the characters and the “listening” public) and it was shoved aside for “I’ll tell you, Joe, and you fill Allison in later.” Sorry, but reviewers are supposed to be sarcastic.

The funny thing for me was when people would flutter their hands at Allison -- and it actually seemed to improve her understanding. What a crock!

Except for some more uninterpreted signing by Nicole (the little actress did an okay job with her signs about wanting her mother and father and wanting to go home), all the stuff about deafness seemed to get shoved aside to wrap up the show.

Allison got her hearing back and everything went back to paranormal.

i saw that show and it's was just okay for me.
i did not like the part, when allison putting her arm behind her head and do nothing. if it was me, i will be screaming at them ,, i would say to them " wave to both of them, tell me and type the word!

This is one reason why I hate to look at sign language without subtitles or cc. Even though I know and depend on sign language as primary method of communication, it's just harder to understand when it's on television for some odd reason.

Also, I find it odd that the girl did not panic when she is blindfold. I thought in a dangerous situation, being blind is the last thing deaf people would want to happen.

I know they threaten her but...oh well I don't know what to expect in that situation. I would probably be just frozen, not wanting to move, which would force the bad guys to carry me instead. I wouldn't want to move if I can't see at all and was told not to alert other people of my presence.
