Because fewer people want to live in the harsh climates. Which makes it a good deal for businesses, such as the insurance companies.

They get tax breaks and spend far less employing the people too.

Up to around 1,000 a month for 3 bedroom rental. You wont find that in good areas in major cities.

Where is the lowest unemployment rate in California? There are always lowest and highest rates. Iowa is only 6.8% which is ironic. I guess it has to be the different economy. Its probably the food industry and financial companies which people will always starve for.
The good thing about living in California is if you have a yard you can grow your own food almost all year long! I had a great garden , but the snails are huge out there!! It is all out war against them! When I lived in Northern California people had to be creatives about making money as there where not a lot jobs then.

You have to let us know where you eventually end up moving to. If you end up moving to the Sierras, I'll have to meet up with you at some point when I visit home!

Yea the gardening part is what I love. Good climate for that. You could grow them about 3 times a year instead of once in Iowa.

And with the cost of veggies today you could save a lot of money and maybe have small farm stand part time. People love to buy fresh pick veggies and will buy tomatoes at $3.00 per lb! At least people out here they do!

Yeah true haha. I've seen several small farm stands in California when I drive thru rural areas. :-)

California has one of the strangest geographic features. A mound of mountains in the middle of Sacramento Valley. I remember driving past it and see over 2,000 ft mountains sticking out in the flat valley.

Yup, and I had a story for my sisters whenever we drove past it. I'd tell them of a giant who fell from the sky and that's how the mountain was formed. They believed me!

Yeah, I've heard that it is due to the military presence. I don't know if it is true or not.

Beautiful! I don't think I have been to Mono Lake area yet. I would love to go there someday.

There's also the Goat Rock in North Coast in Sonoma County similar to that Morro Rock.

Wow ! That is cheap rent! The people upstairs pay $1,300 for a 2 bedroom one bathroom , that included the hot water and heat.

I knew people that lived in Whale Gulch in Humboldt County and it was beautiful
there too. You could see whales swim by certain times of the year. I never got to see them!

My niece's Honda car was broken into, and they took her Mac laptop. I used to have Honda car, and always kept it in the garage. Had never any problem with it.
I used to live in SF/Daly City for 3.5 years and had a 2004 Toyota Corolla with me and it had not gotten stolen at all. Believe it or not.

18% In Modesto? I read a lot of bad raps about Modesto, sounds sort of like Stockton in a way. It's 11.7% statewide. It's only 6.8% here in Iowa.

Even dishwashers have a union here and maids are fighting for there right to organize now. Businesses are leaving California in bunches.

Gee that's pretty bad. California govt should do something about too many gangs and illegal immigrants. If thry get rid of them then California should be a better place to live without all the shooting and crime activity.

Probably because of the warm weather and people being very active so they get out of the house more often. I always felt so happy whenever I went to San Diego despite the horrible traffic there. Just my theory.

I have a sister and her teens who live in Morro Bay. In the picture, We usually call it Morro Rock. My grandparents used to own the general store there for years before they retired.

As for jobs in Morro bay, Cambria, Cayucos, and San Luis Obispo areas, unfortunately, several teachers were laid off at schools. You have to have special skills: any language, Spanish, ASL, Mandarin, etc to teach them. My sister thought she was going to be laid off, but she is the only only at the elementary school who speaks Spanish fluently now to teach children (their primary language is Spanish) to read English. The principal needs her desperately, and wants to keep her. She has to translate for parents-teachers conferences, so it keeps her busy. She is not even certified.

There are several seasonal jobs that are available during the summer for young people. Cal Poly and Cuesta College are not far.

There are many houses for rent, but the rents are extremely high. If you have a trailer or mobile home that you can move, there is a nice and clean area in Morro Bay, and all you need to do is pay the utility bill. I don't know how much it costs right now. It's been about 6 years ago.

I never forget Unions protests in San Diego. My bro and his buddies used to work for evil Ralphs, and got rip off from the unions. Many protested for months and months-- more like every few years.. it is more like routine. lol

Local politicians in the Southern CA tried to do something about illegals, and passed the local proposals, but most of them were thrown out in the courts.
