Phillips, wish I could be more helpful but I don't have many suggestions since I've never been to MD or GA - but we DID go to the Carolina's some years back and that was awesome because we stopped in the Great Smokey Mountains Nat. Park, and we took a chopper ride there too. It was so fun and beautiful. We also drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Those are things I recommend.
Have a GREAT time on your trip!! I hope you'll have some pictures!

What about Savannah, GA to stop just for 1 night? It's a cute little town. Not really geared for little kids, but older kids may enjoy walking around and see how it is in the South back in the old days. Get some good old fashioned ice cream and hang out in the square.

There is also the Six Flags in Georgia, but that's about 20-30 min west of Atlanta. Not sure if you are heading that way.

There is also Atlanta. The New World of Coca Cola and Georgia Aquarium (next door to each other) are good places to go with little kids.

sorry I didn't help much because I have never tried it ebfore. I can see that are going to cost a lot of $$ from MA to FLA like over 5k to spend on such as gases, tolls, foods, fun stuffs and more.

Great Smokey mountain is great place, and you might want check OBX, it is opposite side of North Carolina from Great Smokey mtn.

If going to Great Smokey Mtn, make sure to stop in Gatlinburg, Tenn, very strange town and fun to be there.

Other than that, I really don't have any suggestion.

Stop into DC? Go to Zoo (only if the weather is really nice to ya!) In MD, which part? It would be depend where. Museum is one of the option.

Good luck what you decide on! Have a wonderful trip! We are saving up for Maine for summer vacation!

DC Zoo? There's better thing to do in DC than going to DC Zoo.

The only thing for little kids in Columbia is the Riverbanks Zoo

If you can get to Myrtle Beach, there's more for them to do. The Ripley's Aquarium is fun.

The aquarium in Atlanta is great.

I like the aquarium in Charleston, too, but it's smaller than the other two.

If you want to relax after riding for many hours. i do not know if it closes to your area in florida.

Silver Springs Ocala – Nature’s Theme Park

It is a very cute park. Very relax and sit a lot. It is not that big but very very nice. My parents did take us there because they like it there due to less crowded, less walking and lots of seats to relax. Its a very cute place. i needed that while kids play or run...

Phillips, the chopper ride ROCKED - but I understand some may not feel comfortable. There's lots of other things to see and the park is just gorgeous

You will find many new interesting places on your way to south! Your kids will have so much fun! I suggest you to bring a small laptop or a DVD portable (or two) so that they would not feel bored on a long road. I know what is like to have a kid in my car on a long road.
