Camping

Are you a camper? Can you take it or leave it? Where have you camped before? What do you camp in?

I like camping, but I can't take too much of it. We used to do a good 4 weeks of camping per summer, but I just couldn't take that much anymore. When you overdo it, camping becomes boring. We are camping for one week this summer and it is coming up soon. We are going to our favourite campground and to our favourite site. It will be really nice because we will still have the full enjoyment and endure the full camping experience, but we will know that the experience was not prolonged and dull. We camp in a tent trailer. We used to camp in a tent, but then we decided to upgrade and bought a used Coleman tent trailer from some neighbours of ours for 5 grand I believe.

How about you?

Honestly, I don't like camping....

But I love looking at the stars at night on the campground by the fire.... the stars up there are just amazing!

I hate camping! My husband's parents took us camping when my kids were one and three years old.

I spent the whole night preventing the one year old from escaping the tent.

I have never been camping again. If we could afford to buy an RV I might consider it.

When I was about 16 I and my mom went with some good family friends who at that time had "fifth wheel". The friends were a retired husband-wife couple who had spent years and years traveling and camping together all over the country. They also did a lot of camp hosting. I needed to tour a college campus I was interested in and I was going to participate for a few days in a pre-college study experience in the field of study I was interested in at that time. So we all combined everything and went on a week-long trip with the family friends. We went throughout Western and Northern WI. We stayed at various state parks along the way. It was really fun!

I was in Brownies/Girl Scouts as a kid but never went camping since folks couldn't afford it and I had severe allergies which does make tent camping much more difficult. But I've always wanted to try tent camping.

I love camping. During the geology trip, the camping areas we stayed at do not have restrooms and water. I carried my folded shovel with me. No one cares if one of us urinate behind the bushes. It wasn't my first time, though.

I love camping because I like the outdoors and also like to gaze at the stars in a very dark area with no light pollution. I also like to roast marsmallows over the fire as well.
LakeTahoe likes this.

I absolutely love Camping!

Especially on the Island. Only way to get there is VIA boat, with a group of friends!

So much fun!

Also, been to just about every state park around the state of Florida.

I have been camping alot during my childhood. My last time camping is in Outerbank, NC at fresico woods. Awesome camp site.

I have plenty of equipment, I can go camp right away. Even use them when we had power emergencies! Lifesaver!

Nope... But I have come to realize, that I was swimming with one in the past!

I think that was the day that I actually walked, no.... ran on water.. Everyone said that was the fastest they saw me swim.

That was in fresh water though.

Last time I camped was a few years ago. It was nice cause potatoes, meat and crackers were roasted by the campfire and it tasted pretty good. Before the night we all hiked for about 5 miles and enjoyed the scenery. I'd like to go camping again, this time with a tent instead of a cabin.

Camping's great if you go with people, unless you are are on a sojourn alone or studying something in nature.

The experience sucks if you have to manage other miscellany like crybaby kids or small toddlers, etc; which might make it a little overwhelming for some since you don't have access to everything readily.

Once during my old camping trips, we had a brown bear raid one of the coolers overnight. Funny thing was, it acted like a dog. As soon as everyone ran out with "it's a bear!" on their faces, it was already running away like a champ making off with the loot in its mouth.

Some of my worst experiences in life was from camping. When I was about 14 yrs old I hiked all day with my camp group without any water and woke up with severe pain in my stomach. I couldn't eat for hours and cried in pain until I had enough energy to eat a banana. I tend to suffer from dehydration. Ever since that day, I've been a bit more careful about going camping by being more prepared in advance. So far I haven't had trouble in the forest.

I love camping and the last time I went camping was in the year of 2008, We set up our own tents. I went with a group of friends, we cooked over a campfire and went swimming. I love the joy of being outdoors, the smell of fresh open air and seeing the beauty all around me. Camping is more for relaxing and taking a break away from reality.

Don't like camping!....The bugs, mosquitoes, snakes, bears, lyme's disease, ticks......!.......I've gone once or twice....had to brush our teeth in the river, even wash off in the river!...And use the bathroom in the bushes. (Someone forgot the toilet paper!)

If we would have had a motor home with toilet/bath accommodations, it might have been OK....but we were "roughing" it up like they did in the "old days"....Not for me!...I'm a city girl at heart.

You probably didn't go to one of the campgrounds that has a full equipped to meet your needs, with showers facilities and toilets.

Ur right, we didn't...we went to St. Mary's river in Georgia. "Roughing it up" with tents and a small stove to cook on and a small fishing boat to do some fishing...Very countryfied...

I'm sure if we went to a campground, it would have been more pleasant, especially the toilet/shower facilities.

Love roughing it up!

That is the whole point of camping.

Being out there with nature, and friends.

Tents, camp stove and a cooler full of food and beer.

I like camping. I will be going to vegan camp in August.

Last year it rained non stop and I had problem finding the toilets. So this year I hope to iron our that problem by hiring a caravan. It was also easier to find a guide that way since I will pay for her expensies too.

There's one word I can say about camping - AWESOME!

You may take this country girl out of a country but you can't take the country out of this country girl.

I just found out that my dad's family evolved from traditional campers to modern campers.

Years ago when we all got together (over 50 of us) for camping, we were all in tents. Only my grandparents had their own RV.

Today, everyone has their own RVs. When it's hot, they all huddle up in each RV and play games, watch DVDs, and talk... that's pretty much it.

In the old days, a lot of them went fishing early in the morning.

Today, no one has a fishing boat. They now have boats for skiing, tubing, etc.

*sighs* Times have changed.

Right on..
The true spirit to camping is enjoying the outdoors, not indoors in an RV enjoying the outdoors, it seems a little different - but to each their own.

Fly fishing is one of the funnest sports I've ever attempted. Nothing like the feeling of victory nabbing that dang'ol fish that meets its doom. But then we can always put them back in the water though.

I made a pact with my cousins that we were going to continue our traditional family camping trips when we got older and had our own families. But we're giving it a head start sometime soon to test the waters first.

Wrong! My ideal vacation camping would be in an air conditioned RV with my PSP in hand, and my family forgetting to tell me we ever left home.

If the fish are a keeper. Cook them on open fire or on the grill. Yummy! Awesome way to eat fish!

Love camping! Whether in a tent, travel trailer or RV. I've had all 3. Clearly the TT and RVs are way more convenient but it can almost not feel like camping anymore for me when it's not rustic ! But I still love to be at a campfire loaded with marshmallows and going home smelling of campfire smoke
