I am going....

...to AMERICA! Yes, you read that correctly, I am going to America for two weeks in late January.

That's right, I don't want to wait any longer, I want to go on another vacation to meet my dear deaf friends from alldeaf.com and a family friend of mine (with my mum) so I have decided to visit Washington D.C, New York (Yes, that's right, New York -- there is so many many things to see there!) and one unknown city.

During my trip, I would LOVE to have my ASL skills in full use of my whole trip, and meet as many deaf people as I can esp in my age group, and many deaf events I'd love to have fun participating.

In what I have stated above, I would love to hear anyone of you on this very forum to throw any suggested city I'd visit for my third stop... it only must be in the North eastern area of the United States of America... (for now)...and throw me any deaf events that you think I'd check out and whatever you think that is worth for my visit. Throw whatever you please!

Massachusetts is next to New York. I am about 4.5 to 5 hours from the boarder.

Rochester? Are you flying to NYC?

A friend told me, about 5-6 hrs from NYC to Boston, depending on the traffic.

Rochester to NYC I believe 5 hours by car...by train a bit longer, I think 7. I am not sure. It'll be cold in January so be sure to pack your winter clothes and warm coat/jacket.

I'll reply you back on FB in a min or so!

I'd love to visit Rochester becuase that's the popular area where a LOT of deaf people live there, and also NYC too. I will wait for your reply, thanks LT!

I had been at Rochester during my college life last 30 years ago. Jake, if you interest to go there, you must wear parka coat.

Jake, if u are coming late Jan, u will miss DC DPHH as that is held on the first Friday of each month. However, if u are here in the DC area during the 3rd Friday of Jan, there is Baltimore Deaf Professional Happy Hour. Can meet u there.

-NYC to Boston via chinatown bus (uber cheap) is approximately 4-6 hrs (could be 3.5 hrs on good day)
-NYC to DC via chinatown bus is approximately 3-4 hrs

Based on your preliminary plan, I would suggest landing in DC first and then make your way up to NYC and then Boston.

Here's a problem with Rochester (RIT). It is far. I mean reallyyyy far. It's 6-7 hours from either NYC or Boston. I'm not sure how are you gonna get there. Fellow ADers! help chime in suggestion for this issue. If you did make it to RIT, don't forget to stop by our infamous Niagara Falls afterward! It's only 1-2 hrs away. After that... I suppose you could fly home from Buffalo, NY.

if the weather pattern follows the past - I normally don't recommend visitors to come during Jan on eastern coast. It's incredibly cold. seriously ungodly cold. It can make your trip very unpleasant and unpredictable due to snow storm, blizzard, ice storm, etc. I would say - come on late February or March. But if you wanna live like a New Yorker, then sure come in Jan. we'll man you up

I agree you about trip on spring instead of winter. but he still have his college courses on this time. I had discussed with him in VP this morning.

I never heard about Chinatown bus?? Do you think that is Amtrak train is better than bus from DC to NYC?
