Are you sure you don't want to come to Iowa?

I could meet you at the Amtrak station and let you check out my bad PSE.

Sure I would love to take Amtrak train because it's more fun but it's $$$$ and it's not express. chinatown bus is only about $35 roundtrip or $20 one-way. here's a link

If you take Amtrak Aleca (HST) only if you can afford it from NYC to Boston, it's about 3 hours and 40-45 minutes or so, but with regular Amtrak it's 4 hours and 30 minutes....it's like 45 minutes faster, basically.

I just checked. it's same price. not sure where you're getting that price. you know it's not going to be THAT cheap. there's always a catch.

Based on your preliminary plan, I would suggest landing in DC first and then make your way up to NYC and then Boston.

Here's a problem with Rochester (RIT). It is far. I mean reallyyyy far. It's 6-7 hours from either NYC or Boston. I'm not sure how are you gonna get there. Fellow ADers! help chime in suggestion for this issue. If you did make it to RIT, don't forget to stop by our infamous Niagara Falls afterward! It's only 1-2 hrs away. After that... I suppose you could fly home from Buffalo, NY.

if the weather pattern follows the past - I normally don't recommend visitors to come during Jan on eastern coast. It's incredibly cold. seriously ungodly cold. It can make your trip very unpleasant and unpredictable due to snow storm, blizzard, ice storm, etc. I would say - come on late February or March. But if you wanna live like a New Yorker, then sure come in Jan. we'll man you up
Have you ever think that I got used to the cold weather, son? It is winter down here already and I was fine with Japan weather, I got enough winter clothing, and Jan is the good time for me to fly in since it is my summer break down here, and if I come in late Feb to March, it will be in the middle of my uni course, and I dont want to miss anything there. I can't go in the middle of the year in 2010 becuase university have 3 semesters now, yes, they have added another one (short one) and there is only ONE week of mid break in between and that is not enough so I will have to man myself up in the winterly weather and you know, I will survive regardless. I was in USA during winter! It was in feb 1999. So overall, son, I'll live.

my flight wont land in D.C first, ALL international flights must land either in San Francisco or Los Angeles and I picked LAX becuase it is easy and cheaper, and will change to domestic flight when I arrive there to Washington D.C ..... guys, is boston worth a visit?

Exactly! Amtrak offers train trip from DC to NYC, don't bother going on Acela unless you want to experience speed.

remember - you'll be very fatigued from a very long flights. so since you'll be fatigued from long flights, another 3.5 hrs with this train will get to you.

just saying.

I'd say Boston is good for 1 day. It's a college city. Might wanna visit Boston University, MIT, Harvard, and... uh.... lol I dunno.

Maybe it's best if you head straight to RIT and then Niagara Falls from NYC and then fly home from Buffalo, NY.
