Travel Cheques are a big advantage over carrying cash. If you lose them somehow or they get stolen, they can be replaced (compare that to cash, if you lose cash you won't get it back!)

There's more security -- as your signature is needed... once you get the cheques you will be asked to sign in the lower right line, and when you 'cash' them you do it in front of the cashier so they can compare signatures to accept.

Travel cheques are widely accepted.

I recommend getting them from AAA if you're a member, they don't charge extra fees like some banks do.

I can't think of any cons about travel cheques... except for really stupid cashiers who have NO CLUE what they are... if that's ever a problem, talk to the manager and they'll know what it is. Like duh.

KJ is right about what she said about the travellers cheques. They do cost money though, but for all the security that comes with it, it's worth the fees.

Another way is to bring your ATM card with you, and just get cash along the way. It also costs fees or even double fees when it is not a same bank branch. The downside of having an ATM card is that if you lose it, you're basically stuck. Travellers cheques can be replaced during the trip.

Yeah..Sweet KJ's right...my mother's come out here to Australia visiting with me -- and both times she visited, she's brought along her traveller's cheques and they were really worth it. You know American Express travellers cheques? They're accepted pretty much internationally -- they don't charge at all if cashed at an American Express outlet.
