I have just about completed a 2.5 week trip to the netherlands! I can say that if you go try to get a hotel in Leerdam because that is about the safest place to stay and its not a hard to get around town. My friend that I am visiting lives right on the outskirts of the town of Leerdam and staying at their house is cool. The diets are not that hard to change into just dont suspect a contiential breakfast....my breakfast is usually Broavenbroed(pumpernickel bread) with wajang (butter) and Goud (Gouda cheese). The drink is usually Melk (Milk) but usually 1 or 2 small glasses of it. Lunch if you are lucky can be a sndwich with the same items as breakfast only juice to drink, unless you have alot euros to spend for lunch. And dinner is a big meal with a meat, veggies, potatoes, and sometimes pasta. Don't get me wrong but there is always a chance its the same as lunch but sometimes with pinadaas (peanut butter). There is usually no napkins used, so be ready to use your shirt, hands and pants. I can say you will lose weight on this diet and I know I did I lost 6-8 inches off my waist with the diet and with all the walking because if you don't drive, bike, like taking the bus or train be prepared to walk. This is my first journey out of the USA. The wind is always cooler than the tempds that for sure so wear a short sleeve under your sweater incase you get warm and carry beyond 200+ euros a trip (especially if you like eating out and shopping) I splurged 55 euros on a necklace and that is 84.65 in American money so dont let it seem easy when you are shopping here 1 euro is a bit over 1.50 american dollars and 1 usd is .63/.64 euros so be careful. I can state more later on some of the fun places to go here but make sure you have a way to get there. But I just thought I share some of my fun here since it looks like I am the first to travel here and 1 more big thing.... know dutch because not many know english or how to sign which is a challenge for me but my friend speak english so its sorta easy, but its still a daily frustration to understand through the dutch accent and the noisy of the area that I am usually in when we speak. We tend to try to find quiet places but in a country about the size of well..... half of wisconsin its a big world in a small place. Windmills are everywhere and there is a total of nearly 19,000 in the country.

I am glad you enjoyed your trip to Leerdam, Netherlands. I have enjoyed it alot when I was in Netherlands back in 96 as I was living in Aalsmeer and worked in Hoofddorp. During my fun time and outing, I go to Amsterdam or wherever...

Keep in mind, all beverages sold are in 8oz size eh... I mean soda are served in 8oz glass not 16oz glass like most restaurant in USA do. Bars serve beers in 8oz glass with thick head! Meaning the fluid of beers are between 6 to 7 oz with foam on top. One can ask for large glass like a beer mug which is 16oz are available for extra charge. back in 96 it cost me 2.50 guilders for 8oz soda or beers which means about 1.50 US Dollar back then. I don't know how much it cost now... I am sure dmp would know the cost and exchange rate this year.

That's cool! Have you even go to Coffee house to smoking marijuana?? I heard it's legal marijuana in country. I heard it's good tea there too. Because I watched on travel channel about Passport to Europe with Samantha Brown. She is my favorite tv show. It's so interesting!
Did you stay at Netherlands during season?? Like Summer or Winter? If Winter season. Have you even go on a speed skating? Quote:

The food is good.... I really stayed at my friends house and that friend lives on the outskirts of leerdam meaning not in leerdam outside of it.... Amsterdam is really busy and I can tell you anne frank's house when I went there was a 3 hour wait in line (the line was that long). But there are other musuems like the tulip museum which is really cool if you want to know where they came in in the dutch history. My trip ends monday!! Whaaaa!!! Anyhow currency rates change daily and they dont use guiders in money they now use Euros. By the exhange rate so far its been like .63/.64 euros= 1.54/1.55 American dollars so if you pay like me for instance 55 euros on a necklace here ( they are about 47-250 euros depending on the necklace you want) so it was about 85 American dollars! talk about expensive taste for dutch people. Visa cards are low in Acceptance at certain stores. I love the late spring early summer here I already have a tan.... lol!! if you want to have a wild day or so of excitement try Efteling (an Amusement park) it may seem expensive but if I want adventure and don't want to pay what my sister did to take herself, my 2 nieces and her husband to disney land when it like near what she say 800$$ for passes to disneyland for 2/3 days for the 4 of them..... At least Efteling is cheaper with passes for 2 days at 53 euros (about 85 American dollars) or 1 day at 27 euros (44 American Dollars). I got to say if you stay away from the Red Light District Area you are fine unless you want drugs and alot of wild people that like to be horny 24/7. I was never there so I dont know the full experience but my friend tells me to say its the worse area in the country. There are a few other fun places like the delta works, and the open air museum. The delta works is located at the edge of the ocean so if you get seasick or have a fear of heights or bumpy rides or anything do the right thing and dont go at all even though its about 18 euros(between 36-40 American dollars) to get in a person. The open Air musuem is a very nice place its an outdoor musuem...and requires alot walking. Its in Arhem, Netherlands and is a place that is just like very woodsy but its cool. I am going to enclose my picture on here so you can see me at the Openlucht museum (Open Air Museum) My friend took the picture when we were next to the paper mill house (yeah.... How they make paper old fashion way and its cool) I changed my hair with colors a bit as most of you know I am a brown head but I am a blondish/brownish head with black bangs now!! My hair was up in a bun since it was a very very warm day.

Been there... interesting part of Amsterdam, rich history... no camera allowed but they do sell postcards or pictures approved by Red Light District owners. They do have Sex Museum there.

i went there last year....
tips for those who are planning on visiting 'dam sometime in the future... hostels....try to get a room at the flying pig hostel uptown...a very chill place and its in a quiet neighborhood...you gotta make your reservation ahead of time though...and you gotta be young...they have a age limit... coffee shops...go to 'de rokerij'....excellent green...gets you really really toasted... red light district...i did go to a sex show with two girls from australia...it was 20 euros for 5 mins of what was basically a real life porn...its a waste of your time and money...dont go... food...febo and smullers...everyone needs to stop by there at least once if you are ever in de nederland...the food is ok...its more of a strange experience than anything... shops...go to hempworks...they sell all kinds of cool stuff made from hemp...they sell fresh shrooms and neat pipes as well...their shrooms were pretty good...what an experience... dont take those tips to heart though...i was only there for a couple of days on two separate occasions, so i didnt get to explore that much...for all i know, there may be better places to go to than the ones i suggested... i hope to return to de nederland sometime soon....i miss that place...
