Like drugs, etc., if there is no market for a product, then there will be no manufacturers. There well always be adults raping children but to produce film/videos should be a double felony and those who buy it should also be charged with a felony. I promise you, someone is paying for this shit.

I just know that America has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Clearly, we're doing something wrong.

So why aren't we, as a society, doing what needs to be done to reduce demand instead of punishing after the fact?

I never thought I would say this about anything published from a Fox News site, but this article is spot on regarding the reasoning of abolishing the death penalty. If the risk of executing one innocent person exists, it is a risk too great to be taken. Not only does that risk exist, we have murdered innocent people in the name of justice. That is completely unnacceptable.

Isn't the death penalty abolished in EU countries?

Yup! I think the US may be the only industrialized nation that still has it. If not, then we're one of very few.

Canada too as well. In fact, it was announced today that we've had the lowest homicide rate since 1966. There were 554 homicides committed in 2010.

In that case, maybe a good idea would be to place them in one of those secure mental inistutions so they can get TREATMENT. They're trying to "heal" b/c they think that by reenacting the abuse they can get some power and closure.

Even though the death penalty is still technically legal, it is no longer used in Russia or South Korea.

According to Amnesty International as of a few months ago, the only nations that have carried out executions so far this year are Bangladesh, China, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, United Arab Emirates, and the USA.

Yes, you must be quite proud of yourself. Aye? No?

Capital punishment here in Canada was abolished back in mid-1970s. Homicide rate is the lowest in over 40 years. Go figure.

Pornography's Relationship to Child Molestation
In a study of convicted child molesters, 77 percent of those who molested boys and 87 percent of those who molested girls admitted to the habitual use of pornography in the commission of their crimes.Besides stimulating the perpetrator, pornography facilitates child molestation in several ways. For example, pedophiles use pornographic photos to demonstrate to their victims what they want them to do. They also use them to arouse a child or to lower a child's inhibitions and communicate to the unsuspecting child that a particular sexual activity is okay: "This person is enjoying it; so will you." The above quote is from a child protection agency called protectkids.com . I do encourage you to read this next interesting essay from a professor of Applied Psychology (written back in 2002)
The nature and dimensions of child pornography on the Internet
So I say - is it preferable that the "actors" suffer so fewer random children are victimized? Let's not forget, the subject of those photos, children as young as 3 - are being victimized. Does it hurt to view a photo?? Well, it harmed the subject. That harm will be viewed again and again, profited from, and lead to more subjects being procured when the "new" wears off.
Did I answer the question? Nope. But I surely hope I gave you fodder for thought.

Well, we have citizens walking around armed because they are so afraid of others, we still have the death penalty, and we still deny rights to our citizens based on superficial differences. I'll let you be the judge.

While I can't disagree with anything you have said, I would also caution that correlation is not cause and effect. There is also a high correlation of heterosexual men who view pornography and are sexually active. The fact is that men become sexually excited mostly through visual means. Women, on the other hand, become sexually excited more through the auditory and the olifactory senses. Consequently, a huge proportion of the adult male population views pornography in some degree or another. Also, this is exactly why I say the punishment needs to addressed to the people producing the child pornography. If they did not produce it, it would not be available for viewing. In this country, however, we tend to slap a band-aid on a festering wound just to give people a false sense of security.

He said viewing child pornography was not a crime of violence. He did not say production of such wasn't.

Viewing child pornography is a passive action. This man was not charged with molestation. He was charged with viewing and having child pornography. He was not charged with producing child pornography. There is no way that he can be charged with doing something violent. To be charged with committing a violent act, he would have had to do something to another directly.
No, it's not the same thing at all.
