Not a surprise. Abstinence only education does not cut rate of young people having sex either.

For all of you proof people:

Quote:
The main objective of Title V, Section 510 abstinence education programs is to teach abstinence from sexual activity outside of marriage. The impact results from the four selected programs show no impacts on rates of sexual abstinence. About half of all study youth had remained abstinent at the time of the final follow-up survey, and program and control group youth had similar rates of sexual abstinence. Moreover, the average age at first sexual intercourse and the number of sexual partners were almost identical for program and control youth.

There are a bunch of statistics for you math nerds.

If the sex education and the abstinence are blended in together, I think it would get better.

Yes, my teen took health and they didn't teach him anything. I was surprised because when I took health they at least tried to scare you with pictures of STDs. Many teens won't ask their parents about sex. At least they can look it up on the internet.

AN ASIDE: den master got a call because his kid googled "f*ck" during library time--the kid got caught because the search stirred up quite a ruckus among the elementary school class--lesson learned: your kick will find out about sex one way or another (hopefully they'll get accurate information).

No surprise there. If it's illegal, women will resort to other methods. Needless to say, much riskier and much more dangerous methods.

Exactly. Women sought out abortions before it was legal, and will continue to do so no matter what the legal status is. The only question is whether they are safe, or whether they needlessly risk a woman's life and reproductive health.

I posted a study some time ago that showed the only difference between teens who had abstinence only ed and comprehensive ed was that the teens receiving abstinence only were more likely not to use birth control. The age at which they first had sex, the number of partners they had, the frequency with which they had sex was all the same as the control group.
