Same reason as why people are starting to teach hearing babies sign language ...the fine motor skills needed to create speech sounds take a lot longer to develop than the large motor skills needed to create different signs.

Cognitive disabilities impair a child's ability to communicate (through speech). Therefore, other means such as ASL need to be used in order to facilitate communication.

And explaining to a 3rd grader the role of the V.P. which incidentally was way off!

I think she is 30 years too late. Maybe she was part of the "No Child Left Behind Act?"

I read first hand, personal accounts of some deaf folks meeting briefly with Palin at a couple of rallies in Nevada the other day but I am not sure if this was the first time she became aware of the ILY sign or if she used it in Nevada because she was made aware of and met a few deafies there and flashed it.

If I can find the personal account, I'll post it but I'm not gonna break my neck doing it because, this and other stuff has come down to pettiness.

I'll concede Obama is ahead (in numbers) to the extent that no one in history has overcome (that I remember) with what little time remains to go to the polls.

Governor Palin was a mayor and is now a governor. She know about local government, state government and the federal government. She is the Alaska National Guard commander.
So Jillio, are you signing that most deaf and Americans doesn't understand the federal government (aka American government)? Most of us don't have the Ph.D. degree (Please Help Deaf or pile Up Deeper).

...and Palin can see Russia from her back door.

If Palin knows so much about the federal government, why couldn't she accurately explain the responsibilities of a Vice-President?

For heaven's sake, she couldn't even name a single newspaper she read. How difficult is that?

Nope, I'm saying that Sarah Palin doesn't understand American Government, as is evidenced by the numerous gaffes she has made in her comments.

I would not be surprise if she learns some sign language to communicate with her youngest child as many parents I knew with DS children.

That's something that can be investigated. If I remember, I can search to find out if she does or not.

I already tried doing a Google search about Palin learning/knowing ASL, but I couldn't find anything except for articles that were written about her making the ILY sign. Shel, if you do happen to come across some information about this, I'd be interested in reading it.

So did Senator Biden with his tax gaffe, policy gaffe, etc. He is well hidden by the Obama campaign telling him to speak in small towns and only speak to local reporters. a smart one asked him if Obama was/is a Marxist.

So do the Eskimo scouts of the Alaskan National Guard. Years ago, Spetsnaz troops (their version of our U.S. Army's Special Forces) left tracks in Alaska.

Biden still doesn't understand the vice-president duty too. He mixed up Articles I and Articles II.

[QUOTE=Hear Again;1132702]...and Palin can see Russia from her back door.
