So NOT a Princess!

looks like we have a VERY conservative forum here...it seems to me that a lot of us here have been brainwashed by Republican rhetoric. Certainly there are lazy deaf people but I would bet ANY amount of money that most of the lazy folk are otherwise disabled.....you know the ones who claim that their back injuniry prevents them from working, or who claim that they have "ADD" ....the people who fake disabilty in other words. Most people on disabilty are on disabilty legimately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! Besides, as I've repeatly said, most of our tax money goes to things like defense and corparate welfare......only a tiny percentage of our tax dollars go towards human services! I'd much rather see my money being spent on social services, then something like a thousand dollar toilet...anyone remember that? Sure, it's rotten and unfair that there are some lazy people who abuse disabilty or welfare, but welfare and disabilty payments don't make people lazy. Most people on disabilty WANT to work....that should really tell us something!

hmph, I know this is a tad old thread but I would like to hear opinions on temporary welfare (SSI, whatever you want to call it) for the deafies?
Because all of my deaf friends encouraged me to get SSI since I am 18, but I have this guilt ridden on me- I don't REALLY need it BADLY and I am sure there is somebody else in the nation that needs the money more than me. The only reason I am ambivalent because I am a full-time college student and I dont want to overwhelm myself with a part-time job (I don't handle hectic life well. I am already tensed up, so to add a job to my current lifestyle, ah, not now... I can do 2 hrs of job daily, that is it. I am an impatient person, Don't you feel the guilt of being on SSI when you do have a relative that is willing to help out; It is the same thing with the relative- my mom is sort of like SSI for me... but comes with rules and strings compared to SSI where you just spend it on necessarties and so on and they won't say a word- unless something fishy goes on. Ah, being a half-finnish sucks when it comes to making desicions about accepting "help" from others. Do you think it is allright for the college students who don't want to deal with the finiciail stress get on SSI to create a relief for them while they focus on their primary concern- education rather than handling all of those stupid money issues and so on- VR is enough for the college students to handle! Feedbacks, please. I am trying to determine whether getting on SSI during college years is a good idea or not. Don't throw any flames on me, I am just trying to understand both sides before I jump on the bandwagon. Last edited by gnarlydorkette; 12-25-2003 at 06:39 PM. Reason: addition of more insights |

yep on multi-billion dollar NMD (National Missile Defense) could be multi-trillion soon. That would create zero unemployment for 10 years. |

Remember the $2,000 toilet seats purchased by the Pentagon a few years ago? That is where most of your money is going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't deny that there are indeed lazy people who are needlessly on Disabilty....My mom deals with those people ALL the time!!!!!!!!!!! She sees people getting benifits for things like "ADD" or even no condition at all!!!!!! However the gross majority of people on Disabilty are on it legimitatly!!!!!!!!! Just like with welfare....there are some very stereotypical welfare mothers, who tend to grab headlines (the stupid braindead welfarities who have been on welfare for years and years and who are drug addicts and have ten kids all by different fathers) but research has shown consistiantly that most people on welfare are on it as a transistory thing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't begrude my tax dollars going towards human services.....corparate welfare gets something like over a thousand dollars a year of our tax money, whereas human services gets something like $25.00 (that includes stuff like Early Intervention, traditional welfare, disabilty etc etc) When you divide it all up, you're probaly just paying a penny a year to stupid slackers! |

Federal Income Taxes - Uncle Sam is currently taking between 15% and 39% of our Adjusted Gross Income to pay for what ever it is that they spend money on in Washington.....Social Security - 15.3% of your income goes directly to the federal government for social security and medicare and is conveniently deducted from your paycheck. The myth about your employer paying half is just that. If you weren't required to pay social security, that is another 7.65% that your employer could pay you.
Sales Taxes - Unless you live in a state that doesn't have a state sales tax, this costs you around 6% to 7% of every penny you spend. Wouldn't it be nice to buy something for $99.95, hand the clerk a $100 bill and get a nickle back. I'm not trying to make a political statement here. I just believe that everybody should be aware not all the ur taxes go to social security alone... and beside my friend works for Dept. of Human Service.. she stated to me that people there helped people who are on welfare to get a job... they dont show up for work or get fired... so blame everyone on people who are on social security what about people on weflare? Think about it.. Social security isnt a bad idea for some deaf people who needs it.. and they are Not being called lazy.. There are people on welfare used the food stamps on drugs and they changed it to Ohio direct card which u used at the store instead of food stamps so that way no drugs are being brought off of food stamps they have changed alot and they are trying to have people go back to work instead of depending on welfare.. so please do not say people on social security are lazy and complaining how u use ur tax money on them.. taxes are taken out on everything not just social security.. im done with my saying here.. Thank you.. (smile)

Thanks Cheri!!!!! Besides, the number of Deaf slackers is probaly very tiny...as they make up a very tiny percentage of the total hearing loss population.

Ok, after reading everything on there, i cant find much i would say is wrong with the new program (this is in reply to the first 2 posts). If you can work, then work, if you cant, then i guess you cant, but if you can then why milk money out of the govt just because your deaf? Thats just fucking lazy.

I would agree with that program, help people to get off their ass and work, and not sit on their ass playing around with govt money, I've seen some deaf doing that stuff. I work and my goal is to work with sufficent income and not depend on govt money. I know it is hard, but I have to try.
On the other note, we've been spending billions for war, corporate scams, company discrimination, wage losses, and so on....here in the US, we got full of greed, company want to earn all the money for themselves and pay us cheap wages and we cannot afford living in houses that are way over our income limits, we have to work so hard to get to it. It really sucks, we work then we die taxing out.

Most people on Disabilty CAN work (and WANT to work) Very few of those on disabilty are MR or have a global disabilty (eg paralyzed below the neck) but it's that their disabilty incurs a huge expense so they can't make enough money on disabilty to provide for both for basic costs of living AND the additional costs of their disabilty. |
