President of the world??
Do you think everyone in the entire world should vote for one president??
Would it be nice to have the president of the world who can make sure everything is right and fair?? -President of the world -Vice President for every country to support the President of the world Any men or women can run for president of the world... from country. The world votes for one and unite as one team. I know it will be very difficult and almost impossible to do but it's a thought. **** ingore my flag if it offends you. It is my personal belief just like everyone has their own religious beliefs. Do NOT claim that I want the whole world to be under the CSA flag. No racism comments please. This thread has NOTHING to do with the CSA flag. Thanks. |

My answer is - No. If there is a person who represents Earth - there should be another representation of another world. Until we're in alliance of aliens or planetary colonists (say.. Moon + Mars) - yes we should have a President of Earth.

as a species, we can't get along with each other even with our own leaders, democratically elected or not.
7 billion people (probably closer to 20 or 30 by the time this would be feasible) rallying behind one person is not going to happen. we're too culturally, politically and religiously divided. imagine a Jew voting for an Arab, or vice versa, or any of hundreds of other possibilities. unless, in 500 years or so, humans are systematically medicated to induce peace and eliminate violence in a 1984-style dystopia. |

Thats very true also. For example, its better to eat a dinner plate with all the food groups being separate side to side on the plate than it is to pour all the food groups in the blender, mix it up on liquidify and drink it--- yuck!!! That's why people should be able to follow whatever power/religion they believe in and be happy. Respect any and all people no matter who they are or what they believe in-- even if you dont like. As long as they dont harm you, just leave them alone. This would be best for worldwide peace so to speak. We are all God's children. |

Nah, what for?
Until we've come to a point where we have planetary control, then we can have planetary presidents. Years ago, we had respected people in towns. As towns got bigger, we got kings for big castles and groups. As groups turned to countries, we had presidents for those countries. We haven't even gotten to presidents or kings for entire continents. Why jump ahead to presidents for the planet?

There's this interesting concept from anime called MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM 00
The year is A.D. 2307. Although fossil fuels have been exhausted, mankind discovered a new energy source to amend their plight: three massive orbital elevators and the large-scale solar generation systems that accompany them. However, only some of the major nations and their allies would benefit from this system. Three superpowers own the three orbital elevators. The "Union." based in the United States of America; the "Human Reformation League," consisting mainly of China, Russia and India; and the "AEU." which is centered in Europe. For their own dignity and prosperity, each of the superpowers is continuing to play a large zero-sum game. Yes, even in the 24th century, mankind has yet to unify into one. |

To me, too centralized government = bad.
One world president would be the ultimate in centralization... (aside from fiction where there's rulers of whole galaxies) And no, I am not a bomb toting anarchist (even though I am slightly anarchist..) I feel unity is best achieved through cooperation and direct democracy (not this representative republic thing we have going on... but that's another story). "Don't sweat the small stuff" I think some people say... More decentralized committees/governments have a better idea of what is going on locally... how in the world is one global president going to really know how people feel and what they need in a particular area? He/she would be too distant... almost just a figurehead. I doubt many people would care for it, once they actually got it. "New world orders" always send shivers down my spine... |

I just don't think it will work. There is way too many conflicts like religion, wars, everything out there and we can't change that and become one country. It's impossible, man.

That would happen when there is a reason for the whole world be be united, like when we have others living on Mars and the Moon. It'd be easier to set up a world president on Mars and the Moon because we'd start from scratch there and we could have the world government maintain the infrastructure to keep people alive on the worlds without lots of oxygen in the air.
The quickest way to make a world government be needed is to have beings from other planetary systems come here. They'd have to make it across vast interstellar distances, so this doesn't have much chance of happening. |
