Black Panther Party (Black Power)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Just something else to talk about. No racism comments please. This thread has nothing to do with the CSA flag. Just thought it would be interesting to talk about different forms of power and organizations all across the country... seems to be very popular under 'on-topic-debates'. Thanks. |

H. Rap Brown (now known as Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin), a BPP leader in the 1960's shot and killed two Fulton County (Atlanta) Sheriff's deputies about eight years ago. He was, I believe slapped a life sentence in prison.
BPP was more violent than other so-called hate organizations.

Yeah, the black history is held in February every year.
Instead of that, why not have a month for people of any color (white, black, yellow, brown, blue, pink, etc). Sounds better that way for a "freedom country" like the US.

I have nothing against "(insert minority group) History". I do have a thing against "(insert minority group) Power".
By saying that, you're no different than the majority that do the same thing. I've dealt with deaf students going around saying "Deaf Power!" It's no fun. I'm insulted. (I'm deaf, but apparently... I'm not "deaf enough" to be considered deaf like them.)

I have a friend who got tired of these racial groups and the way they were treating him. So, he joked about making a White Man's Club. Everyone got pissed off. He then pointed out how he felt when others were making him feel with their racial clubs and they said that it wasn't the same.

Maybe this thread has to do w/ how we feel about black power?
![]() I attended a semiar by Jane Elliott Here's the link to Oprah who interviewed Jane. Jane wrote the book Blue eyes vs Brown eyes. An Exercise in Prejudice I talked w/ Jane and she said that even her father 'disowned' her. Her siblings will not talk to her. She said that we perpetuate the myth in that when people make racial slurs/jokes, we look the other way. What we are to do if we really wanted to combat racism is speak up. For example, my mom's neighbor awhile back said to me, 'yeh, things are not the same in the neighborhood. They even have blacks renting a house down there. Blacks moving in everywhere!' I did nothing. I keep my lip zipped and moved on, back over to my mom's house. What I should have done is said, 'your point? What is wrong w/ being black?' See what I mean? Anyway, i don't like to see racism - - reminds me too much of that Asshole who called himself Hitler. I am gonna have to stick my foot in my mouth and say something next time someone says a racist remark.

My Black friends do not celebrate that. They think it is stupid and that something like that should not be singled out. What about Asian History Month? What about Hispanic History Month? What about Mixed-Race History Month? They make a lot of sense to me. They say that everyone's history should be celebrated every day.

They are questions that my friends have asked not me, fyi. I show your response to my friends and they say: those are only days and not months. And those are points in history and not history as a whole. Regardless of that, they are all pointless because we all should celebrate our history every day and not have to point out that we are different. |

I think that the reason why February is dedicated to African American heritage is due to Lincoln's observance in February as well as noticeable events in African American history. Afterall he did issue the Emanicipation Proclamation. |

I am all for Black history month. Imagine your "race" being enslaved for since America was born? imagine being plucked from your home and taken via a ship to a weird land that did not speak your language and you go beat just about everyday? Sure, the other nationalities are fine but to celebrate black history is not because blacks are different. It's so not due to looks. Now, forgive me if there are other 'races' that have been enslaved by the U.S. and are not celebrated. I only know of the blacks being enslaved. The only other 'race' that should have a celebration month is the American Indians - - I truely feel for their past and present pains - - they really got a deal beyond raw.
