You might want to have this thread edited from before #42 to change it to your new question, because not everyone reads whole threads (I didn't even see this until today)... so you are still going to get people responding to the original question.

Excuse my above post.
There is too much variable data to extrapolate.
If we can prove, through some sort of cultural/sociological probability theory, that humans will prematurely destroy the earth (they destroy it before it can be destroyed by natural causes, a finite time line), then based on this theory alone, it could be said that the extinction of humans would allow Earth to continue on its natural course.

However, as pointed out previously, humans might SAVE the Earth from a natural destruction, extending the life of earth. Therefore in this scenario, human extinction could possibly shorten the life of Earth.

However, at the same time, the probability of one scenario does not preclude the other scenario. Even if humans invent the technology to stop meteors from destroying the Earth, or prevent climate change, or whatever, that doesn't mean it will be done BEFORE humans destroy the Earth themselves, and vice versa. We might not get a world destroying meteor to give us the chance to use that technology, before destroying the planet ourselves. Or we might save the planet once first, and then destroy it later.

Edit:
And if people want to get into whether Earth is 'better off' without us, that opens a whole new can of really abstract and enigmatic worms, especially since WE are the ones deciding what 'better off' means.

I'd like to point out also, that some people get disillusioned.

Even me, the other day I wrote a big 'vent' about how I was dissatisfied with the way society is going, and at the end I said I some times wish we extinct ourselves.

That was purely out of distress, and I can understand others who feel the same way. This is why I try to look at things dispassionately, and encourage others to, also... I get hung up and upset too, but people need to step back and examine things without regard to feeling, some times, including myself.

I'm sorry the way you feel like that... Hey, you are not alone. I actually feel the same thing as you said. Annoying, upset, frustrating, and tired of something, I know.

As my opinion - I really think, fifty to hundred fifty years later, the world may get better and improve, thanks to advanced technical stuff and science stuff. Who know? If not, I beleive there is another way to sovle this problem (it's gonna be hard)... It's look like self-extinction is last optional if there is nothing we can stop or fix it...

There's a good chance of that happening.

I have come to a conclusion just a bit ago, that the human ability to reason outstrips it's ability to understand.

We can figure out how to do so many things, but all too often we cannot agree on whether doing those things are a good idea.

Natural selection and consequences have mostly been removed from many human societies. This alone is not necessarily a bad thing, by itself, but the fact that it allows many detrimental occurrences, which may nor may not be balanced by beneficial ones, is a HUGE gamble.

We have embraced innumerable possibilities, and a certain proportion of those possibilities lead to disaster, but we all too often tend to look at only what we see as good outcomes. This needs to be put in check, soon, or it will be done for us, and we will not like it.

Feel like rolling some dice, anyone?

believe me - there will be WW3. it's inevitable but this time.... it's not going to be in Europe again. It will most likely be in Middle East or Asia. The outcome of it - China will possibly emerge as World Superpower for a short time or as 2nd Superpower. USA may temporarily lose its Superpower status due to its excessive, uncontrollable spending which possibly led to WW3 (USA financially unable to contain the threat from growing such as multiple closure of its key international military bases, very limited military interventions). Another outcome of it is the disbanding of NATO force and formation of a new alliance force. For ie - USA + Canada + Mexico as "North America Union"

that's just my best guess.... i need to stop smoking weed and put down Tom Clancy books (j/k)

How do you take over the world?
Here is how I would do it.

First, look at the old dictators who failed. Learn from their mistakes.

Take control of industry and people, via capitalism.

Keep people smart enough to be unknowing slaves, yet limit their critical thinking. We want to limit what people are capable of, but book burning is a big no-no... people tend to catch on to that.

Keep people so busy that they are wholly dependent on infrastructure, internet, television, making enough money to eat... make it so where in their spare time, they are more worried about golf than dealing with anything stressful.

Pretend to fight racism, greed, immorality, while secretly harboring it just enough, because it gives you leverage.

Let the rich stay rich, and make the poor stay poor. That way you always have at least two demographics to appeal to... you can throw them a bone once in a while to keep their interest.

Allow election of really bad officials once in a while, to make the ones you really want look good.

Pick on other countries to help develop your force, start a war here and there to perfect your war machine, in the guise of some mission. Also helps to keep people dependent in times of crisis, and shows the tactics and abilities of other countries, even so called 'allies'. This also helps indoctrinate the military and the people to war, making them more susceptible to your propaganda machine.

Try to disarm other countries nukes, while keeping a few of your own hidden. At the right time, get someone else to start World War III. Make sure that this war totally wrecks the majority of other countries who will be contenders to your takeover. Make it a bloody and mostly conventional war that you can use to smash other opponents, with your perfected war machine. Use the few nukes you kept hidden, wisely.

Ensure that the population falls into chaos during WW III. Use this as a reason to enact Martial Law. Find a way to make it permanent, pull out the infrastructure for a bit to make sure people panic, then 'rescue' them. Make them worship the government like God.

Assassinate those who oppose you, while working on ensuring other countries stay weak and chaotic. Indoctrinate the people that other countries are evil, your country is the best and most righteous in the world.

Start taking over everyone else, one by one, expand, and conquer.
