I've lived in the South for many years now, and the food is delicious, and the people (for the most part) are gracious. |

I've always visited the South most of my childhood life. I miss it, but then I moved to Texas, it helped me reminisce a bit and I got to eat the best Southern cooking, BBQ, Mexican food, and most importantly, drink a lot of iced teas!
Now, as much as one may be a rude Minnesotan but does not mean every Minnesotan should be rude and egocentric, especially about their state. They tend to be nice bunch of people, but that happens sometimes when it come to some issues. |

And, I have yet to see any of that "southern hospitality" either! Come to Minnesota, honey, we'll treat you like you lived here your whole life!
Well, being the gracious southern farm girl that I am, I really can't respond as I would like to. All I will say is it sounds like, from your description that you must have been standing in an Army Mess Hall Chow line some wheres in the deep South got fed what they labeled as Southern cooking. Restaurant cooking in the south ain't the same as good ole home deep fried chicken with biscuts and gravey, with corn on the cob slavered in butter, sweet taters and black eye peas. I just have to think whoever fed you before was a Yankee in Rebels clothing. Or else somebody just stole your candy yesterday. |

Here is a really deep south dish.
I'm coming to your house for dinner!!!!
I'll bet this grosses out a few people here, but this dish is truely southern for the poor folks diet. Grits and Fish with Fish Gravey! Yummm! Deep beer batter fried fish, (usually cat fish and yes I know its not kosher) grits, and a gravey prepared from the drippings in the pan the fish was fried in and ladeled over the grits with a big dolop of butter on top. This gravey is made with water and not milk. MMMMMMmmm goood! heeheeheeee Really! This is a real dish! |

Well, it don't get no better than hush puppies!
Now I'm gonna have to put them on the menu for tomorrow. Right now I'm too full of the kids Trick or Treat candy. One of my kids went as the scarriest creature I've ever seen. An IRS Agent! aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh! |

Whoa, whoa. Make another thread about KFC or GRITS. Y'all are suppose to talk and debating about the Confederate flag, not the foods.
![]() So, Confederate flag isn't racist. I know KKK use them. But that's their flag. I have a confederate flag hanging on my wall in my room. I'm not a racist, I'm just from the southern states, of course. Schermy, you exactly didn't answer my question. Germans use swastika isn't part of the Confederate flag. Florida's state flag has a red cross that is representing the confederate flag, same goes for Georgia (first Confederate flag). Same thing for Alabama's flag as well.

Ok, there's few different way for confederate flag. -It's part of heritage, remember about civil war in 1800's. -Redneck people are use this flag as their culture and demands on southern culture. I had experience about certain of black peopl are not accept wih confederate flag, such as believe about slave and racial issue in long time ago and if they don't accept that as their personal then would be action against white people that who wear confederate flag logo on shirt, neckle, gear or hang up the flag at home and some of them are tolerate or ignore that, it's common in southeast usa. I understand about their personal, one of my black friend had fought with some white guys that use confederate flag logo on shirt, neckle or gear.
