Lightbulb Allow to be member???

Do you believe that non-traditional groups such as HOH/oral/CODAs should be considered members of the Deaf Community?

I think that Oral Deaf could be if they show they are interested and learn ASL, but if the Deaf community continue to shun us then we wi ll think that Deaf way suck and try to be hearing...

Including them is great for debates if everyone respects it in that term and purpose.... but its not great when one group becomes dominant over the other in terms of linguistic use to demostrate that one area is better than another....

I'm a guy.... does being a woman mean I can be better than a guy or vice versa? We all have our own hang-ups....it's just great to share them and potential solutions at different levels to learn from each other.

My 2 cents worth...

non-traditional groups? thought they were normal and already part of this world. i have some friends who are coda, hoh and oral. they are attending gally right now... yes even codas (one of the few hearing ones accepted for undergrad)

i define my own ideas, not anybody else. this seems like something you may have to do, babyphat, and be happy at the same time. searching for acceptance from others, have u accepted yourself yet? you can't please everyone.. at once, anyway. hehe just my thoughts, feel free to drop what doesnt vibe with you.

WORD! Being Deaf is about being Sighted rather then being "hearing impaired" It's not really about how much hearing you have or don't have, but rather it's a way of life about adapting to your limitations, and making other senses work overtime for the missing sense.
It's also about being fluent and knowing ASL.
For an interesting spin on your paper you might want to talk about hearing Deaf people, that is hearing people (non-CODAs) who use ASL as a primary language due to things like tracheostomys, apraxia, and things like that.

I think oral people may be rejected cuz they aren't really part of deaf community but I noticed they are tryin to be part of it but I bet some are torn up to be trapped in middle between deaf and hearing world just like but I'm deaf yes but I was born to a hearing family I have deaf friends and hearing friends too but that's complicated for oralies who grew up and never will get used to use sign language cuz they can SPEAK.
