Pizza delivery man is attacked, then shoots would-be robber - City & Region - The Buffalo News
=========================================

They messed with the wrong pizza guy.

A gang of robbers attacked a pizza deliveryman just before 10:30 p.m. Monday as he brought food to a house in the 400 block of Cornwall Avenue, near Erie County Medical Center.

In the front hallway of the house, one of the robbers, who wore a mask and had a brown hoodie pulled over his face, hit the deliveryman on the head with a hammer, according to police.

The masked man also displayed what appeared to be a gun, police said.

But then, the deliveryman told investigators, he pulled out his own handgun and fired a shot, striking the masked man. The rest of the gang scattered.

DeJuan Coleman, 18, of Deerfield Avenue, was under police guard at ECMC in fair condition Tuesday, recuperating from gunshot wounds to the upper right arm and abdomen. He has been charged with first-degree robbery.

The pizza deliveryman, whose name is being withheld by Buffalo police for safety reasons, was treated for head cuts and bruises as well as a left hand injury suffered in the robbery attempt. Police said his gun was properly registered.

Police also did not reveal the name of the pizza shop the deliveryman works for.

Monday’s incident was the second recent case of employees of city pizza shops rebuffing robbers.

On the morning of Oct. 24, Terrance Price, 21, of Urban Street was captured by a group of La Nova Pizzeria employees shortly after he robbed two of their colleagues of the more than $5,700 that they were taking to the bank from the shop at West Ferry and Hampshire streets.

Price, who was then on parole for a Pennsylvania crime, was chased through backyards until he fell on 18th Street, where the workers held him until police came.

He pleaded guilty March 27 to first-degree robbery and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having fired shots at the La Nova workers who were pursuing him.

Price faces a possible prison term of up to 25 years when he is sentenced on May 28 by State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia,.

Price is believed to have had at least one accomplice because the money he took at gunpoint that morning in the La Nova parking lot was never recovered.

An investigation is reportedly continuing.

I really really want NYS to repeal the "SAFE-NY ACT". Its just plain stupid law, pure and unnecessary to be on NYS law books.

I'm little confused... this pizza man was carrying a CCW?

Why confused? What does this comment from police means to you? "Police said his gun was properly registered"

registered and permitted are 2 different things. My gun is properly registered but not allowed to CCW.

Ask that cop, not me. :-D

Personally I don't care about registration, and permits because I considered them as political infringement of the civil rights protected under our constitution. ANY FREE man (including women) is entitled to protect themselves and keep the civil in order. That is the end of my argument, period!

that's what I was asking......

sounds like a vigilantism.

If every gun owners carry guns everywhere, it will be like WILD WILD WEST.

Oh really? Oh REALLY?

Old wild west guys don't conceal their guns! They tend to brag how badass their firearms are. Today, those who have handgun with proper permit usually conceal them and don't brag about them. I don't like the idea of open and carry guns, prefer concealed because it gives everybody choices whether to carry firearms or not without anyone knowing. This is best way to protect from tyranny and criminals alike.

lol, he's Californian.

I see nothing wrong with carrying a concealed weapon while delivering pizza.

Pizza delivery men do not carry a lot of cash with them , I am glad the guy was able to protect himself . He was lucky the blow to his head did not knock him out cold the thugs could had taken his gun and may had used it on him.

My brother in law in Buffalo owns 5 guns -- 1 handgun, 2 shotguns, 1 rifle, 1 pinky rifle for his little daughter.

me either but.... it's NY.... one of the most hostile state toward 2nd Amendment. never heard of any NY resident as private citizen having a CCW license...

that's it? that's what people in gun-friendly state will say

so sad to be living in gun-hostile state... many people in gun-friendly state have probably at least 10 guns

There are certain areas of my City that Pizza deliveries are taboo....won't deliver them to that area due to high crime......I learned that the good ol' hard way when I went to visit some friends .. I knew on the other side of town....I suggested we have a Pizza delivered.... ...they gave me a "funny look" and said..."they won't deliver them here...we would have to go pick them up."....

Trying not to be judgmental...but that was the last time I visited that area....
