Thought for today:

Wild Pigs
There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some
exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the
lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing
his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native
country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, 'Do you know how to catch wild pigs?'The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs findit and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn.

When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat; you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their
captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening
to America. The government keeps pushing us towardsocialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form ofprograms such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP),welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms -just a little at a
time. One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free Lunch!A
politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do yourself. If you see all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential
to your way of life then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut!In this 'very important' election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you -just maybe you will be able t o tell who is about to slam the gate on America.

'A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.' - Thomas Jefferson

The most powerful message of the week here on AD and no comments? I rather enjoyed it immensely; showing the danger to individualism by the government's constant hand-outs to it's citizens.

Wasn't quite sure what to say. I am looking forward to the economic stimulus money that the government will be sending. Other than that, we live without government handouts.

That's why there is no universal healthcare system in USA

Excellant post Tousi.

I heard that even though Canada has universal health care... it is not good for a very-illed person to go because its standard is lower than ours. What do you think why sick people from around the world come to USA? "You get what you pay for."

If so, then care to explain why our healthcare is ranked higher than yours?

The fact is, the US government spends far more than we do on healthcare yet we are ranked higher than them. That is because healthcare is a capitalist industry in the USA. They can screw people over if they want to. In Canada, they can't do that.

American healthcare is far, far more bureaucratic yet so ineffective in the public sector when compared to our healthcare. The average life-span of a Canadian is approximately 2 years longer than the average American. Mothers are twice as likely to die during childbirth in the USA compared to Canada.

On average, Canadians do get better healthcare than Americans whether you like it or not. Believe it or not, Canadians are several times more satisfied with the services they receive in comparison to the Americans.

One of the problems with American healthcare is that they capitalize on it, therefore the taxpayers are paying more via taxes and insurance premiums. Not everybody can afford to pay for health insurance nor qualify for medicare so they are forced into a situation they don't want to be in.

Every Canadian resident is covered by the government. There are room for improvements. But it's certainly better than American healthcare. The only way to benefit from American healthcare is if you can afford healthcare premiums. The richer you are, the better off you are. The rest are screwed over.

Socialist Healthcare vs. Private Healthcare.

There are benefits from a socialist healthcare and there are benefits that arise out of private healthcare.

This is a topic that is reserved for another thread. Within this thread, called "Wild Pigs," I'll testify that I've heard this same argument against Security vs. Terrorism.

The parable is so transparent that anyone could identify.

You've said it better! If I recall correctly - Canada has much less machines (such as X-ray, CAT scan) available than USA. The reason why Canadians are satisfied with their health care is because they were already healthy in the first place therefore - they were satisfied with basic routine health checkups and some surgeries for accidents/injuries. However - we have the highest rate of obesity and many other complicated diseases/cancers. I don't think with Canadian system - you will not be able to handle our cases. My friend has multiple chronic illnesses due to being Hep-B positive. Even though she can't afford American health insurance... she prefer our hospitals over Canadian hospital. Another reason - universal healthcare was viewed as a form of socialism where government takes over and regulate our health system (silly Republicans). It is ironic - we are the best in medical field but our country's dying from something that can be easily prevented... We're too far in the stage where universal healthcare is not viable at this point - must be an ulterior motive by greedy companies. It'll be a long while to get to Canadian Healthcare System.... Don't get me wrong - I want universal healthcare but the more feasible thing to do right now for America is to heavily regulate the health sectors, insurances, and fast food sectors!. our population needs to smarten up and eat healthy and exercise regularly!

but yes - we're :topic:

We're off topic but, jiro123 (wtf is that sn?), it needed to be said.

Jiro is the name of this awesome dog in anime. I'll post a pix of it after i eat dinner :cool2:

Tousi - I must say, this is a powerful post. There's the analogy that goes by with the post but yeah, there's laws (some of them are dumb) that are created; schools are within their max of zero tolerance policy and (some) has went too far with it; rampages that are going around; things that are very well out of context only in order to swarm up us all in one place to lose the freedom a little by little. I'm afraid, in the end, it could be too late before any actions are taken.

You have dinner at this time?
lol yes sometimes we eat late because sometimes my mom was out shopping longer than she thought.

Yeah...bar-be-que wild pig!
actually yes - I had a pork dinner.

I can't remember the name of anime.... I'll remember it someday so I'll get back to you in a while
