I am 5th generation Deaf. All of my family and relatives do not rely on SSI/SSDI. We EARN money by going to work everyday.

Has nothing to do with being deaf my man, I have spinal injuries and extreme pain on heavy meds so I cant work anymore. I have to beg for help with my house, hire out and that's hard to come by in todays work, and what little I do...its killing me. But since I was 16, I busted my ass in the work force to get where I was, shame the employers don't care who you are anymore...youre just a number that they pay. When time comes youll understand the brutal truth. 15 years in my career and they didn't give 1 ****.

I would highly recommend them to move to somewhere cheaper... or with government-controlled rent....

You wont find a house/property cheaper than what I have. Well you might if you look and research like I did, but its not an every day occurance to get 1/2 acre with a 3 bedroom house in a prime location.

But you will never get a place through low income/HUD housing.... most rent is $350 and up. I got that beat by half.

Very similiar here, I was doing great until three years ago BAM! Im screwed up, and getting very limited help. I would LOVE to go back work but the injury I have is really killing me. Sometimes when I do hell work just for one day, then when I rest in the end of day, Im in deep pain and it drives me nuts. My last employer that everybody here knows very well did tried everything to help me. I was too valuable for them to lose me BUT the problem they have was their workers compensation carrier were very uncooperative, also my health insurance refused outright covering my injury and they blamed on work related injury. This is very long story, and in the last three years, I didn't give damn what cause my injury. I just wanted to get them fixed so I can go back to work. My request for this falls on deaf eared representatives on both insurance companies.

I would love to trade my spine with anyone who thinks I'm taking advantage of the system. The system is utterly SUCKS! Work is far better than being in the system.

So, this got nothing to do with Deafness even though I was born Deaf.

Be careful when bashing somebody being lazy on system (SSI, SSDI, Welfare, whatever shyt you want call it), because it CAN happen to you without knowing it or predict. I never thought that I would deal with this BS until three years ago. UNREAL!

Good news is that my case went though crack and starting to process but it was rather snail paced. I think the damage is done, and I still hope that I was wrong about damage being permanent. The bad news is that I may have taken too many risks on returning to work only to worsen the condition I have (I tried to return work 4 or 5 times in the last 3 years!).

Jiro, the doctors/lawyers and specialists went through it all... I have no computer skills whatsoever other than common uploading pics, sign in and chat on forums, I don't know spreadsheet, or any of the other stuff whatever its called. Ive tried and get lost with it, I am not a computer wiz at all, Ive tried learning stuff, My friends all make 200K+ year as IT techs and they have tried to show me but I lack the skill of understanding it.
I have been a hard laborer all my life, I am very mechanically and skilled in several trades, but cannot labor like I once did. If you have noticed, it has been about a year and my house is still not finished. I used to rehab a whole house in under 2 months.... it will never happen again in this lifetime. These last 3 weeks my back has been out, if I had a normal job, Id be fired already, cant move, cant do it.
Don't get me wrong, I miss making real money and Id love to be back in the work force making $20+ an hour again with all the overtime I can handle... Do you think its enjoyable sitting on limited income? Its really not, its depressing, seriously it is.

I would like to trade him my usher syndrome and stress/anxiety so I can drive extremely comfortable and have better visibility, even could work comfortably in physical labor. He probably won't ride a bike anymore, unless ride with his friend, O&M training, drive carefully in the car, uncomfortable in crowded area, pelvis pain, etc.

I had trouble getting though airport security but usually made though anyway. Metal detectors always goes off when I go though, usually between yellow and red.
