Well, went to Costco today and my mother has moderate to severe hearing loss and will be getting rexton hearing aids. The woman, I assume audi told her that the hearing aids cover hearing loss from mild to profound and once they're worn do not need to be "tweeked." The suggestion was that I didn't need the Widex but would save money by switching to rexton (somehow the attention was shifted from my mother to me.) Now my father thinks I'm spending unnecessary money on Widex and should look to save money with Costco. The audi doesn't like Phonak and seems to favor rexton.

I like the clarity of what I hear and I've never had real issues with these hearing aids since 2012. Would you buy your next set from Costco?

Laura

For me, I wouldn't, but that's because I have a profound loss. I'd rather stick with an audiologist's office. But for your mother it might be ok?

Rexton is the same as ReSound, and ReSound is what I have and love it to pieces.

I have severe to profound. My parents don't have anywhere near my loss. I thought this woman was over reaching by suggesting I'd benefit from Costco's HA. I've always been happy with my audi and have gotten great service. It's hard enough finding a brand that works for you, to start all over again with something that may or may not deliver the same clarity and sound quality.

Sounds like she's pushy (aka trying to make a sale). I believe the people at Costco's are Hearing Specialist, not audiologists. As AC said, they may be fine for your mom, but I'd stick with your audiologist for yours.

And yes, some audiologists/hearing specialists do prefer one brand over another. It could be that they just prefer the software they use to program them rather than thinking one is better than another for the wearer...or it could be they think one brand is better.

I think my current audiologist was more into Oticon, but was happy to work with me to get my Phonak Naida's. She's now my Link (AB/Phonak) audiologist. She was willing to learn how to program it for me and got the software and had the AB rep come and help her fit me.

This problem is every where they trying to push you hard toward one brand my advice do the homework research read read and read
i used to wear linx2 resound and because im have fluctuating hearing moderate to severe and then severe profound in one ear i switched to Starkey halo that dosnt mean the linx2 is no good but i can hear more and better with the Starkey both of the HA was my own decision the doc tried to push me toward phonak but i noticed that he is taking commission

form my basic understand any HA that fid severe moderate hearing can be used with profound if molds are added and bit of tweekes
At the end of the day go for trial period and then decided if the HA is doing you any good and note that Rexton and resound is same but they have different names in different countries for me i like the Starkey and still love the resound whenever i wear them and nothing to compare but the Starkey gives me more power although most of the time i feel that my head going to explode form the sounds lol i been wearing it for 2 years now

Seems to me though any hearing aids sold through costco and similar places are more for the mild to moderate range as I guess they're 'easier' to set up for. I wouldn't go for Costco hearing aids as I am profound deaf ... lots of tweaking with the hearing aids.

Thanks for the feedback; I'm going to stick with Widex. Yeah it's expensive and yeah that stinks, but it works for me in all the ways I need it...

I'll be shopping sooner than later...my HA are already 5 years old give or take...

sadly they do start to depreciate after 5 years. The pair before the current ones I managed to make last 10 years lol- by the time it was somewhere around year 7 parts of it started disintegrating or breaking off :/. Pretty sure in 10 years I may get a new pair (and if I'm out of work again- get NC VR to pay for them lol- stroke of luck the last two times).

Really hope some day (yeah...right..) the costs will come down or be covered by insurance.

You need to get a job at my company. They offer HA coverage. ;)

I'm going to hope my current hearing aids last ten years...that would be great! My insurance does cover some but it's a mere dent. Still, my father's insurance covers $25 - what a damn joke. Medicare for my mother covers zip. Health care should cover 100%...too bad there's no way to force health care companies on this issue.

Soon you will be able to get over the counter hearing aids. But some of us most likely would not benefit from them.

Really? And not have to go through a licensed place? Do you know what the retail would be? (I'm not looking, I love my ReSounds).
