Recently, Apple Inc released a refresh for the Apple TV product line. Introducing several features, including additional features; HDMI, Apple A4 Chip, Optical Audio, Wi-Fi, Built-in IR Receiver, Micro-USB, Netflix, use iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch to connect to Apple TV, Apple Remote, HD Movies, HD TV Shows, YouTube, MobileMe, Internet, and Flickr. It only costs $99.99 too… an amazing price! It is true that many people like it, however, will the Deaf and hard of hearing like it? Does the Apple TV provide Closed Captions?

The Deaf and hard of hearing customers does not care about the bloated list of features, unless it has Closed Captions. Why? Because they need the Closed Captions to understand the dialogues/sounds happening on the Apple TV. The Deaf and hard of hearing cannot just stare at the TV shows or movies while not understanding the dialogues/sounds. This is why Closed Captions is very important to the deaf and hard of hearing customers. Hopefully the Apple Company hears our request and adds Closed Captions!!!

Post your thought on their website!

Last time I saw the second model Apple TV before it being shrink. Yes, it have closed caption features.

Well, I have to check Apple Store again.

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Epix (i907))

Only $99?! Oh wait, they make money from movie/TV show rentals. It requires a HDTV with HDMI port. We don't even have a hdtv for good reasons.

I notice that Apple removed analog input, such as component cable. :(

Did you know that there are many hdmi adapter for old tv.

SDTV? no, they don't support HDMI.

Possible to use monitor with HDMI or DVI to HDMI adapter if monitor doesn't have HDMI.

I went to Apple store yesterday...

Yep, it's confirm, there have closed caption. However, it's not up to Apple decide. It's studios whom decide to add CC or not. But with new law, studio should be aware of.

Law already settle. But it would take probably a year to get studios to aware of the new Act.

Let this be a lesson for you - don't believe what Tea Party loonies and Republicans tell you about the freedom of choice for businesses to do whatever they want and the businesses will be altruistic and care about you deaf people - the fact that they chose to ignore captioning the whole time shows that they don't give a rat about you deaf people. They don't want to pay extra for captioning. It costs money, you know that?

By making a law, it FORCES them to comply and provide you captioning. Same with ramps. The handicapped got more freedom to be mobile ONLY because we got ADA. Before that, they had very limited freedom.

"Socialist laws" or "excessive regulations" are good especially when it comes to accessibility.

Actual, studios have find their way to provide CC as original been doing on broadcast television. Once the sponsor paid and hope to ads, it pay CC service to add on the TV show. Don't you know that?

Seriously... what's different when I paid $1 rental movie that have CC compare to iTunes for $2.99 without closed caption? Sheesh

It cost about $2,000 per movie or show at the most of time.

Yes, I know that clearly. Don't you know that they were NOT required before ADA was enacted? Well, more accurately, before Telecommunications Act of '96? It was regulations that forced them to pay for CC. Before that, we had much fewer captioning. Usually prime tv shows had them.

Also, the CC is NOT the same as subtitles or SDH for web videos. They're encoded differently so some software ignore SDH or CC completely. Thankfully with the new law, it will force them to write software to provide CC.

Apple Safari now supports captioning in HTML5 but it requires videos to be re-encoded to show captioning. HTML 4 or earlier did not. what took so long? Go figure. Even worse, it's optional, not required. HTML5 should make it a required attribute just like strict XHTML require all images to have alt attibute. Why not the same with video?

Apple Safari is more like under quicktime with several format that I'm aware of, have CC which it work nice.

Apple's quicktime already included CC available. But most video dont included cc enable. Thats problem.

blah blah blah, if any show or movie have CC exist already, it should be able to transfer to be available for online. Isn't that hard?
